Roker beach

Had a dodge down to Roker beach tonight for a few casts. Only really went to swerve the chocolate eating monsters banging on the door every 10 minutes.

Had some frozen blacks and a bit of mackerel for bait, and headed for a spot where I've never blanked.

Got down for about 5pm and the last hour or so of the ebb. Nothing for the first few casts, then moved about 50 yards down the beach. Just baiting up for my last cast, when the rain started. While putting everything away in the box, I spotted my carton of Isomes, so added a big peach one on the bottom hook, as well as the black and macky.

In the water for about 2 minutes and then the tell-tale rattle which produced this.

Just on 37cm and about 2lb. Don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but I'll be trying those Isomes again, especially in the dark, on scratching rigs.

Good size flattie, well done. Worth frying up that one.

I've got a load of isome left from the summer, haven't used it since I snapped my lrf rod, i might put some in my box next time I'm out.

I used them in Iceland and they worked great on their own , never tried them here . Nice fish mate well done

Nice big flounder mate I never keep flounders for some reason are they ok to eat ?????
Ps. Did you keep it to scran

Out of the sea rather than the river they are edible, but there's much better fish to eat out there.

I put that one back last night. I very rarely take fish these days, and never the bigger ones if possible (this one was lip hooked for a change). My thoughts are that the bigger ones are the breeding stock. Each to his own, as bait is not cheap, there's nothing wrong with taking a feed, just I'd rather take those that are just over size.

Fishing the Open on Sunday?
