Reel Seats

Whats peoples views on the following reel seats for Beachcasters with a 525/saltist

- Zip fitting (the one that you tape or whip to the rod)

- Imax reel seat (the one with only 1 hood and a coaster)

- Penn talon

The reason I ask is that I hate abu griploks & century reel seats because they break too easy.. And need 28mm so refuse to pay the ukhooks price..
Also hate coasters for fishing as find they slip when they get wet

Only really used abu's,only had one break on me n that was hvy handidness lol:)
Don't like talons,bit of wire/metal that cut's/tightens in to your rod:eek:just my opinion,I know a lot of lads swear by e'm.pac bay's about £5.00 supposed to be reliable,altho so r there minima's:eek::)

Another thing i do is cur the bottom bit off shrink tube of carefully peel it off reel seat on shrink tube back up to reel seat normally get away with atleast one size down.

I've used the Talon but as already said didn't feel too confident with tightening it down on a thin Zziplex butt. As another alternative you are looking at about £17 for a bog standard 28mm Fuji DPS seat (out of stock at Rutherfords at the mo), it is then a doddle to cut a couple of grooves with a hack saw, fit a coaster and then you have a bombproof home made sliding real seat.

Just use a Century seat as a guide for where the grooves go; I did this with a 22mm seat to replace the rubbish Century one on my TTLD then did the same with a 26mm for my Primo Synchro, no more than a five minute job to do

Yep as above using fuji seat or if you don't want to use coaster cut it like the greys reel seats.sometimes cutting shrink back on the newer century rods is easier said than done with the adhesive it's stuck on with lol.

I've always done that in the past.. Cut the seat to take a coaster but was thinking of trying something different.. Getting a talon off Mark to try so will see what it's like

Oh, btw it's just xwrap on a greys orion mk1 so no worries about the shrink.. Although I was tempted to glue a fuji on and do away with the slideyness

Hmm not great.. I have a 28mm seat with the sliding hood missing where it broke.. I think i might try and make that into the same as what the Imax are.. As I know this is already a nice snug fit.. Shouldn't wobble at all
