Red Ice line

Thanks for all the info folks, it was the first time I used Red Ice so wasn't sure if it was any good or if it was a cheap ;line. The F1 is excellent and great for casting too.

Treeboa - That knot looks just the job, it looks tougher than the standard Albright, I will try it out next time I go fishing, cheers.

Thanks again
Dean

dean, tie it at home when you have light and some free time lol, i can do it at night but i have been tying it for ages, the clue with it is lots of spit and tease the coils into place while tightening the knot rather than just pull them up like you do with say a uni knot, the only tesimony i can give on strength is when i use it with 20lb braid to a 50lb shock if i jam into something it normally breaks around the terminal tackle knots

one thing i have just remembered, ice line seems to be very bad at picking up nicks when fishing, or it does were i use the stuff , i know a lot of nw lads use f1 and swear by it, especially the ones using multis

Line's like everything else, it's subject to flaws and personal preferences. I *was* using Okuma on my spinning reel, but it's been turning into an utter mess every few casts and losing spinners/miles of line. I bought a cheap bulk of Penn 10lb (well got it for dads day) and it's sitting nice on the reel with only the odd minor loop happening when there's been loose line.

Must say I get more hastle with fixeds, mainly when spinning, than with mulitpliers, obviously the way the line is laid on to the spool of course.....

Master the bimini leader knot. Once you've learned how to do it, you'll never go back to anything else.

i'll say the same mate, ive been using the bimini for a few months now. its a pain to learn but its well worth it. tied properly it'll beat any other knot for strength and ive heard 3/0 sakuma's will snap before the bimini will.

Yes definitely weting it, using an albright knot. Going to try some different line tonight, I'll see how I get on.

a dont no the name ov the not that i use but its the same 1 az u use t tie ur hook on u twist it on and tightin it on the shock leeder then do the same with the shock leeder its verry strong and definitaly wont brake at the not

I ws just looking at it on a website mate. I reckon I could learn it at home but not sure if I fancy doing it on a beach in winter at 2am! Still, I will give it a go.

I used it for years without any problems and then must,ve had a faulty batch about 2 years back of 25lb breaking strain, and had no end of crack offs with it. It seemed to stretch and not retain it's elasticity.

Bought another spool of 30lb for fishing the rocks and no problems, so continue to use it

My brother in law had the same problem with red ice last winter ,he spooled up twice and it happened on the second spool up as well ,so he changed line to ultima and had no more problems , must have been a bad batch of line that has passes the quality control.

I had a nightmare with Red Ice - very brittle and snapped in all the wrong places...now use Ultima F1...never had any probs since

Hourses for courses though as they say - could have been a dodgy batch
