i haven't put a report on for a while due to the fishing being totally poop, this was my monthly evening trip to take the bairn out and she likes to beat me.
after hearing mixed reports from the lads out during the day i wasn't expecting a lot.
heading out

we headed straight out to the 4-5 mile wrecks, 1st drift nothing on the pirks so second drift i tried a shad, bang fish on, and a good one, felt like a double.
coming up steady then it was off, i was gutted.
a couple of the lads were picking up the odd scotchy then the bairn was off showing her dad how to fish.

lovely fresh bait, i'll keep that for slack water for the ling. keithb do you recognise the rod the bairn uses?
we plodded on, moving from wreck to wreck with nothing decent coming aboard.
about 7:30 we moved to what turned out to be the last and best wreck of the night, the sounder was alive with fish, tried the shads without anything.
then the macky arrived, loads of them, full house after full house and we quickly had enough to put the big baits down

as soon as i dropped a full macky fillet down BANG fish on, it barely touched the bottom, up came a nice 4lb cod. i managed to lose another good fish which was probably a ling as my bait was shredded when it came back up. we were all pulling up some decent fish, my mate kris had a nice ling just shy of 8lb, i ended up getting another cod about 4lb and a ling about 5lb.

best fish of the night went to my brother in law james, a nice 10lb cod

that wreck reminded me of how good boat fishing can be, that wreck was full of good fish with masses of macky.
hopefully the season is about to start properly because its been shocking so far
