Take the end plate off you will see the brake blocks in a white carriage. Push them in till they click, trail and error the more you push in the faster the reel. Hope this helps.

If it hasn't already been done then the bearings probably need flushing and new oil put in then.. As far as I'm aware they come with some nasty greasy crap in them

Take the end plate off m8 sounds like you are running with all the brake blocks on (there is six of them! )leave 2 or 3 popped "out",you'll see what I mean when you try it. Flush bearings and put a drop of oil in them. Put it back together and Set tension knob again to just let the spool move side to side very slightly this should sort ya prob m8;-);-)

It's best to get someone who knows what they are doing to show you how it's done.. You will need to strip the old grease/oil out of the bearings (I prefer to use lighter fluid) and give the spool a really good clean with wd40.. And then re-oil the bearings with a lubricant oil of choice.. Don't get hung up on rocket fuel it's only important when looking into big distance casting.. You can use all sorts of oils to do the same job.. If I was you I would deff give it to someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you and like I say they may be kind enough to show you exactly what to do so you know for next time.

Just remember though WD40 is for cleaning not lubricating..

If it had been an abu or a 525 I would have done it for you but never touched a fathom before :-)

Why don't u get a mag conversion for it:rolleyes:been a lot of talk about"magging"but I have the fth 12 n believe me it makes a cracking reel into an AMAZING reel.
But otherwise the guys r right, may b a bit of contamination in the bearings.
Good luck with it buddy:)
Ps just me thoughts,n i'm talking from experience with my reel:rolleyes:

I've got the 12 version, take side plate off and remove half of the brake blocks, then adjust the other half so there are on, try the reel if its still slow adjust another block to off and so on. Clean bearings the usual way with neat alcohol and add one drop of rocket oil to each of them. Every now and then check remaining brake blocks as there are adjustable but some sometimes jump back into on position that's why you remove some of them just incase your out and they all adjust themselves to on position, at least reel will cast ok with only a few blocks in on the on position.

thank lads

thank lads

just like to thank all you lads again for all the replies and advice thank you all very kind indeed.
intend to sort it out over the weekend then get up to the football field next week and give it a go she, how she goes after cleaning and brake adjustment

Just push one block in till it clicks then do the opposite one and so on. Have heard some lads have had the blocks jump back out after a hard cast personally this has never happened to mine yet. Good luck
And yes you can click them back yourself
