Just a quick question i am going to buy myself a penn surfmaster fixed spool reel for fishing off piers and a bit of beach fishing etc, whats the best one to go for the 750 or the 850 model?
thanks in advance:)

Ive got the 850 and to be honest i would avoid it like the plague, the bail arm assembly exploded when i was reeling a bit of weed in. I havnt read a good review about them anywhere either, apparently the 750 is slightly better. just my opinion but i would definately avoid

I was warned away from the penn surfmaster range aswell, I was advised to go for a diawa or shimano, so bought the shimano aerlex xs 8000. It's an wesome reel and having read some horror stories about the penn surfmasters glad I stayed away from them.

from what i have read from various forums the 750 is the one to go for.

I put a post on 16/1/11 wanting a bit of advice about which fixed spool for my mate to get and got a canny bit of feed back. Have a look at the thread mate, infact I think your on it at some stage.

I had a 750 for summer pier fishn it lasted a few years but the anti reverse is broke now and I wouldnt buy another one. Bought a shimano 6000 last year for spinning and light fishn its a fantastic reel no where near as cheap as the penn but ad buy another shimano 2mora
