Penn 525 mag problem

I've just bought the reel above and when it's on free spool I click the lever to retrieve there is a big delay to engage to reel in it takes 5-6 turns of the handle to engage has anyone had the same problems and if there's any solutions any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

Yes I've come across this prob before on the penns.

On the selector level the cam that moves a plate that in turn engages and disengage the small pinion gear is sticking.
Sometimes a little bur is the problem on the slide plate,remove slide plate clean and debur it.
Other thing is old grease stopping the plate sliding back and forth.
You need to strip reel and wash out all old grease then inspect cam,slide plate and debur then re grease.
Not a big job to do.
