Pairtrawling Ban

The government has announced an immediate ban on pairtrawling within a 12 mile boundary of the british coast, triggered by the amount of dolphins and porpoises netted and dumped each year.
The main culprits are Spanish and french boats after bass. so... more bass more dolphins and less french and spanish boats raping our seas,
THAT me bonny lads... is great news.

thats the first bit of fisheries policy I\'ve heard and agreed with in ages. Not before time.

Whats the betting the french/spanish will ignore it anyway

you beat me to that one mark ,this is one reason i wouldnt mind paying a licence fee for to get the sea policed and keep the buggers out

Wonderful news mate. Well at least for the fish inside the limit. I listened to a lengthy debate on Radio two this week about the same subject. Once outside the limit you have to be licenced to do it. Our kind government is licencing a certain amount of boats to do it. I am sure it was less than five but????
Any of the non British boats that do it now are still allowed to now as long as they do it outside that limit.
I was under the impression that they were talking about 5 miles. Pleased they have done a bit better than I expected.

Jim.

Well this doesn\'t seem to have had any impact on the boats around the Whitby area (I\'m not saying these are Whitby boats). Whilst fishing in Runswick Bay last night there were a couple boats clearly pair trawling within a couple miles of the shore (you could actually see people moving on them).
