If say that a casting club designated that on a particular day only 1 sinker would be cast (i.e. 175gm) would that encourage you to go or not ?

I personally prefer to have a choice of what I want to cast on the day, having that option removed would probably make me stay in bed.

What are your thoughts ?

if i was told i could only cast 175grms on the day i would reply f-o and take up greek dancing lessons. i prefer to chuck a weight of my choosing.

We had this debate a few nights ago on another channel! :)
I would choose to go and cast the ones i am capable of casting on the day. (smaller weights)
And when it comes to the biggies, i would give them a swerve! (i will try them don't get me wrong), they achive when the chips are down, but for me, not the biggest of fellas, how can i compete with the real big fellas?:o
The big fellas can cast all the weights, not all the smaller fellas can cast all the weights!
Give people the choice of what they want to cast, don't make them cast things they are not big enough for!
50-75-100-125-150-175-200 Pick your three weights and cast them!
Level the playing field!!!:D 3 rounds on each!
This got me nothing but greif the other night, probs no different now! But cannot leave it alone!!:yltype:

take a look at most clubs results and the majority of the casters opt for 150/125/100gm wieghts. it seems the 175gm is,nt most peoples favourite sinker. shame really coz it relates more for fishing but.....tourno casting is a yards game not fish on the scales.

Use it and bigger all the time for fishing Will, but probs a little to much for me!
I will have a go, but don't think i'm man enough to contend!!

I would love to see the "proper" fishing weights become standard again.

I would also prefer to see 1 (2 at most) weights cast on the day. You can then judge yourself against the others. It also allows you to fine tune your technique and reels instead of pi**ing about changed rods and reels, refilling with different diameter line etc.

Don't mind the odd event on the light leads but as a keen angler I prefer to use what I would use for fishing ie 150gr plus. I know my fishing box is full of 175gr sinkers and not much else.

Also why have the expense of buying 5000 size reels just for the field! I don't use them for anything else and prefer a FS for lighter fishing anyway.

aggregate winners could be the way to go 175 + any other lead you want to cast :0)

then we stick to the surfcasting aspect I.E usual sea fishing weights 175 then choose your best lead

+ it will help every caster as no lead is as hard as the 175 to cast it sorts your cast out, once thats sorted the others will follow i know my casting is better when ive been practising on the 175

You start and tell me what lead i can and can not cast and that will be the last you see of
me.
As i cast to enjoy myself and casting a lead of my own choice is on the day restfull
by saying you must cast this and that it takes the happy go lucky fun out of the day
I know you must cast all 4 leads to cast for you country but some dont want to .
so why make them cast a lead they dont want to.
The field has got bigger over the last 3 years and is on the up WHY??? I think it freedom to cast what ever leads the lads want to cast. and you have one rod and reel set up to keep the costs down .
RANT OVER.

Dave,

It was hyperthetical

See my thoughts - "I personally prefer to have a choice of what I want to cast on the day, having that option removed would probably make me stay in bed."

Glad to see that some minds think alike ;)

John,

The other week at Steyning I had a crack-off that I found over 130m out the back of the 250m court :o If it was one of those big powerful chaps they could go over 400m

Mind you it was the 100gm and I was using a fixed spool :)

Aye John,

Too much house building.

All I know is that the smaller sinkers go further :o so perhaps for safety's sake we all start to cast the 454gm bopedo ;)
