old image of fishing on the pilot

gone are those days remember my first fish caught off there when i was six it down on the right hand side on the steps but everything changed when they put them stupid breaker blocks round the end and then put the fence up round the pilot light

it needed a good s/e wind to get rough in there and still does. 8lb fish were common.

H.A.D.S.A.C had there club house at the base of the pier.

there used to be metal rings in the concrete at the base of the wall. you could jam your rod but in them.

i once saw an 8ft fibreglass rod get snapped as a fish was biting. the fish was pulling so hard and the but jammed in the ring it snapped the rod.

The first picture is the red light pier which is by the fish sands on the Headland at Hartlepool.
The second picture of the long pier with storm damage is the Heugh also on the Headland at Hartlepool but further around the sea front.
Mick.
