newbie new boat help

I know John said he wants a boat not just for fishing, but for playing around in, well I have a Reiver sportsman with an 85hp 2-stroke which is roomy, quite easy on petrol if you stick to cruising speeds. I take my family out in it as well, down to Sunderland airshow, or out for a bit of mackerel fishing with the grand kids. It has quite high free board so not much chance of the kids falling overboard. I really do think you should think hard about the choice of boat mate, cos if you make the wrong choice, it will probably be a difficult boat to move on without making a substantial loss. Whichever choice you make, good luck.

i went to see it today its a very tidy boat apart from the floor being tatty.. its only £1200 which i didn't think i was bad? i am not bothered about speed it was just the fact it come up at handy money, and could see if i am going to enjoy it before i outlay a more money on something better

That's fair comment mate, it does seem a lot of boat for that kind of money. If you are intent on buying it, start the engine up with water running through it and check if there is cooling water coming out of the engine and that it is running freely. I doubt it has an auxiliary motor as back up, so if your taking it onto the sea, I wouldn't venture far from launch site for the first half hour of running. Once again, good luck mate, I hope it all goes well.
