Mull of Galloway - The recce...

Got to the Mull about midday saturday and pitched base camp as first port of call - weather forecast had said it was going to rain in the afternoon so it was deemed best to get tent erection out of the way first...

Chez Doodlebug :)

Then on to the fishing - after all we weren't there for the scenery. Headed straight to the end and headed straight to a mark (straight down that is :o)

Got us to a nice little bay with some good points to fish from...

The lads tried a few spinners and jellies to see if there was anything interested - I was fishing the float and Rag' baits...eventually produced the first fish...

Then we decided to make the ascent as we wanted to try other marks...word to anyone contemplating going across there - YOU HAVE TO BE A MOUNTAIN GOAT :o:D

The view down...

After a near heart attack and several shots of pure O2 we were ready to move on (or rather me and Gregg needed the break - Phill IS a mountain goat)

Moved down to West Tarbet...

Again I stuck with the float and it eventually produced another small Wrasse

We all moved round the coast a little to fish some deeper water...all of us float fishing at this point

Gregg eventually saw his float go under...

Then Phill...

Then Gregg again...

All smally Pollock, but still good fun on light gear...the sport got better and the fish bigger as dusk drew in...

All told we caught over 10 fish in about an hour and a half...biggest little under a 1lb (to me;):D)

At this point the 3 weary trainee mountain goats went back to the site. A lovely (if somewhat chilly) evening...

Someone mentioned that as the Mull is on the Gulf Stream that it nevers sees a frost...I think they forgot to tell someone...

Very very cold night...resulting in one frozen tent :o:D

All in all I would call the trip a success - we knew it was too early for the good fishing, but it was always a trip for learning and to recce the area. We did at least get to catch a few fish and have some sport - the weather was also kind to us in the end, despite the forecast.

We've all learnt quite a few lessons already about the area (among other things) and will be back for sure when the weather warms up a little ;):D

i think that first mark is one i fished 2 years ago on my first visit to the mull. I remember thinking after i had fished it that i was mental to have fished it on my own. if i had slipped that would have beenthe end of me.

still i had a canny conger there that day.

cracking report lads well done on catching i cant wait to get away with you all on the next trip bit gutted i couldnt make this one should be good fun and hope to get some bigger fish

welldone lads great report and pics too ,better reports to come in the next few months when it warms up ,goodluck lads looking forward to the next one cheers

Nice one lads , as Alan says the weather gods looked down on you ,it's a breathtaking place isn't it ,only a few months before our Mull trip :D

Nice one lads, there are some great marks over there. The only problem is if they are wet :o it can be a nightmare trying to keep your feet.

Our trip wasn't as boozy as yours can be though...although I fancy yours might be a bit more sedate this year? ;):D

Maybe for Steve :o :D :D :D I am getting back into training :D :D :D

I don't think I will bother with a rock rod this year, probably just float, spinning and if it is calm enough some fly fishing too.

Jim.
