Missing Mojo Returned - Walkway 05/07

Been suffering from a serious loss of fishing mojo this last month or so, just no interest in getting out or even coming on the boards for a while. However with a new toy to rekindle my interest (picked up an M4 GT tip to use with my M4 Evo butt for a very good price :D) and a good forecast I decided to grab some bait from the freezer and head out for a session.

Decided on the Walkway for ease as much as anything, got there at 7pm with HT at 10 to find just a couple of other lads alreay fishing. Got set up with two rods, one dropped close in and the other (my new toy) belted out to the middle of the channel. Bait was frozen crab, bluey and some manky runnydown on two hook clipdown rigs.

Was into fish straight away, a procession of Flounder on the close in rod to Bluey going to 35cm and a fair few double shots. The rod in the channel was just as busy, had a double shot of a tommy codling and a whiting first chuck then it was non stop Dab action, again a few double shots with fish to 27cm.

HT came and went and a solitary Coalie broke the monotony of Flounder on the close (~ 20yards out) rod. By 11pm I was hankering for home, the decision made when a decent rattle on the channel rod resulted in what felt like a decent fish only to find a bloody great snotty Eel of a good 2lb had completely trashed my rig, scissors being the only way to untangle the mess the slimy swine had made.

All in all a lovely night to be out; away from the hordes on the pier, six different species and a good 20 fish landed. Was really impressed with the GT tip, it makes the rod a completely different animal to the standard M4 Evo tip and it was a joy to cast and fish with. Looking forward to the Seaham club match next weekend now though with the sea forecast to be away in the week I can see it being hard work once again...

There's nothing like new gear to get you back out again. Good session mate, there were plenty fish around the South Shields area yesterday.

The gt is a glass tip yeah? Better bite detection? How much does an m4 gt set you back second hand?

Yes mate it's like a standard M4 Evo but the last foot or so of the tip is blended to glass. Completely changes the nature of the rod and it loads up really nicely with a fishing pendulum.

From what I've seen a 2nd hand M4 GT goes for between £280 and £300, I was fortunate enough to pick up a tip that a lad had specially made for him by Terry Carroll but he wasn't using it - as the butt is the same as the M4 Evo I've now effectively got a new rod for £150 :D

(only bugger is the whipping colours are completely different to my M4 Evo so it looks a bit odd with light blue and red whipping on the butt then black tipped with purple on the tip...)

Good report mate, m4gt is a very nice rod, just find them to thin for my giant hands lol. When I first used one it felt like a bass rod but a rod capable off 7oz plus bait. Just a quick question mate when inter grating tips do you not have a problem with spigot knock?

I think it works with this rod because the M4 Evo and the M4 GT are the same rod which means the tips are interchangeable with an M4 Evo butt. Certainly the GT tip fits perfectly, even to the extent there is exactly the same amount of spigot gap.

I know a few of the tourney lads muck about with mixed tips and butts, and I cast with a lad who used a CM Crest tip in a CME butt for OTG casting but apart from this rod it's never something I've tried before

Nice report Stewart, I've lost mojo too lately but please don't say I gotta buy another rod to get it back. :)

:D I don't think it's compulsory Pete. I think rather than feeling bad about it just accept it and take a couple of weeks away from fishing (and that's why I was off here for a while - as much as I love the boards and the lads on here reading the catch reports doesn't help when you aren't up for fishing yourself).

You will get the urge back soon enough, just pick a venue like the Walkway that should hoy out plenty of fish but will be quiet at this time of year and get an enjoyable session under your belt
