Well me,col and geoff had planned a trip to scotland meeting dave and gary up there on sunday but after checking the weather it wasnt looking good and the trip was called off as there was only going to be one decent day and we wanted to get 3 good days fishing in... :-( ....anyways col was itching to go up so he said im going even if its for 1 day me and geoff thought we rather wait til the weather was on our side and go then, but col managed to talk me round and go up just in the car for the one day stopping in the B&B so i said ok pick me up saturday morning nice and early well that didnt even go to plan col was like a kid waiting for xmas and rang me friday afternoon at 3pm and said haway lets go now stay in the camper tonight so we are up early for tomorrow and have a good long session few hours sleep and back i didnt take much convincing..... .....so off we went on the way up there col was at it again we could have a few hours tonight this lad never gives in battering my head in..... i said we will see what happens well we lost a little bit traveling time to get there for 10pm as col thought i would be happy unless i was fed a huge burger king so another pit stop for some food..... ...got to bonny scotland for 10.20pm the tide was starting to flood so the mark we wanted to fish was going to be a no good by the time we got on it , it would of been time to come off...... :-( ...we had a quick look at the harbour locals were fishing the cages and had nowt sea was flat so off we went to auchmithie there was a few lads fishing the shingle beach so we quickly we ready and got the gear out and went for a wonder right here is where all the fun starts..... .
Spoke to some of the locals and they only had a codling of around 2lb so we decided to give it a shot one of the lads put us on a nice shot casting into a gulley so i said to col lets give it and hour and see what happens after the first chuck things wernt looking good as there didnt seem to be enough water there...so anyways after a while it sharp filled up fast this gully so we both got our lines back in the water col got an absolute stonking bite and the fish was on only to get hung up in a snag where the fish went to ground resulting in col loosing the lot.
....we were both using rottom bottom 6/0 pully rigs with 80lb trace and snoods 35lb main line straight through anyways lines back in i was holding me rod and next chuck another stonking bite fish was on again shouted over to col gis a hand fish was giving one hell of a fight after very close inspection of the fish coming in i said had on thats not my trace looked in its mouth it had col's snapped trace with a half mackrel.... plus a small eater crab and also took my 6/0 pennel with a full squid and half a mackrel on what a greedy little fish col wasnt amused and very upset i got his fish well after all the hooks were taking out it certainly wasnt going to live bleeding heavily so weighed it and kept it for the pan it came in at 4lb nice start for me......
Another pic took at another angle lol
Another chuck resulted in another cracking bite for me which nearly pulled the rod out the stand.... got it in another nice fish weighed in at 5lb looking good for me 2 fish for 9lb and colin was fishless.....
We had a few more chucks and nothing so decided to head to the van quick couple of bottles and sleep while col cryed hiself to sleep over his lost fish i had to claim.....
Next morning up nice and early had to wait for col he wanted some pics of sammy the seal....
Headed for the cliffs after stopping for a nice big breakfast got there got all the gear out off we went nice and early to get a good spot as there was anglers pulling up by the minute with it being a cracking nice day sunshine and blue sky.... got a nice comfy mark on arbroath cliffs fishing was slow hear today plenty colour in the water but sun was blazing and seemed to bright colin ended up with codling for 1.5lbs and i had my first ever shore caught ling at around the 1.5 to 2lb mark so another new specie for me........ baits used rag/lug/freshcrab/mussel/razor/squid/macky but there didnt seem to be much about col was dissapointed as he had seen the good bags ive had off the cliffs before anyways we left for some grub and get ready for the nightime mark which i said we should get some fish so off we headed abit north to montrose area col was happy to be off the mark with a codling but wanted more fish.
Here is a couple of pics from the cliffs.
Right after having some grub from the chippy off we headed to usan this mark had to throw fish out as sunday was going to be a no go with heavey rain and strong south eastly winds forcasted, gear out the van off we went got set up rods in the water and as usal this mark never let me down we had fish after fish each it was more a less a fish a chuck no bigguns tho but plenty of fish to the 4lb mark then the night ended with a suprise strap conger for me about 3lb with lovely blue markings on it col was happy with this mark and cant wait to go back after a dying sea or a nice lazy swell coming in we left the mark at 1.30am weather had starting getting herendous with heavey wind and rain so off we went back to the van spoke to a few other lads coming off various other marks who had the same results as us plenty fish to the 4lb mark me and col lost count but we had caught around 40lb of fish between us only 4 kept and all the rest went back safly.
After returning to the van we decided to head back down to arbroath to stop sent gary a text and told them not to bother coming up sunday as the weather had turned evil and dint want the lads to come for a wasted journey me and col ended the night on a high with a bottle of jack daniels unopend lol only to find 3 big measures each later we were rather pi$$ed and no jack left in the bottle got up the next morning stinking hangover for me.... :-( went for our breakfast col offered to drive back nice one col i went to sleep waking up only 70mile from home....... another good trip only a short one but worth it in the end cant wait to get back up soon as we are forcested the right weather.
