macky bashing it's great fun

Well the macky bashing season is soon to be upon us and for me a sea angler for over 40years i think it's one of the best times of the year. Why because it's the one time of the year you can catch loads of fast fighting fish, and it's great to do it when it's warm and sunny, no winter clothing, freezing hands,head lights and expensive bait not not to mention the multiplyer reels and beach casters pennel rigs, ect, ect. just a light spinning rod, light line a lure or float and when the stripies hit your lure they give you a better fight pound for pound than any other fish in our sea or rivers and thats including trout.i know they are easy to catch but so are cod when they come on. It's not hard to catch a cod if it is hungry and goes for your bait it more or less hook's it self [i still don't understand why cod are the ultimate fish spieces to catch along our coast and i have hooked hundreds of them, no kidding]The chavs when fishing in the summer are a slight problem but not as bad as people on this site make out, if you want to wear a baseball cap and drink stella thats up to you it's a free country thank god.Go early in the morning if you don't like the chavs, i'll garantee you won't see any, and just enjoy.

yes it's not bad when your reeling in a lead from distance with nowt on and then get hit half way back by a good size macky

Amazing fun a try to cach them as low get as possible and feel the fidget Amazing fun and to avoid the Un experience ones 1st light always for me to.

Great fun catching them on a trout rod using a sinking line and a cats wisker lure.

I go off end of Shields pier and also try for other species. Got Herring and Coalies last summer. Great fun on light set up. Had canny few macky as well.
Nee bother off chavs.

Had a try 'prospecting' yesterday for an hour and a half off the end of Shields pier with Daylights looking for the odd Coalie or Herring. Nowt there yet, i would give it another 3 weeks .

my favorite time to bash the old mackeral is very early on a weekend, l love it when the top water is about 05oo am, fish it either side of the tide and it tends to be chav free. Have any mackeral showed their faces off the piers yet, l suppose the cold weather is not helping, it was the same last year, they showed up late but stayed late too

Totally agree about about the idiots that appear out of the wood work at macky time..... Noisy , foul mouthed scum bags with cans , which are left at their arses or chucked in the sea along with whatever other rubbish they ve discarded. Add to that, killing every fish they've caught, (more than they can possibly use), and the chav/macky scene is complete . Sadly Roker seems to be a magnet for them. Aye, its a double edged sword is macky time.

Tried a spinner and daylights fishing the tide in on SS pier yesterday and nothing doing

Quite a few on the pier possibly a comp ( Amble ) but very few fish landed.


I did however catch the sun and have a lovely bright red tan

Hi, planning a trip to Blyth this week - prob looks like trying a midday ish high tide. Recommendations on times either side of high tide appreciated. Planned on light spinning tackle if only for sun shine and fresh air. Thoughts welcome.

You don,t have to go on the piers full of idiots to catch them.
There are plenty of rock marks and even beaches where they can be caught.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking what other marks do you recommend to catch them? I've always wanted to try somewhere other than Blyth pier.

You do't need it to be high water on Blyth, best times are early morning and evenings

Plenty of Mackerel on Blyth Pier last Friday at 1st light water was boiling with Sand Eels being chased by them.
