Luce bay

Alright fellas, I'm off over to Luce Bay area next month and was wondering where is worth a shot to fish? My mate used to catch alsorts, bass, wrasse, pollock etc over there but unfortunatly he is deployed away with the army so can't ask him!

I know it's a fairly big area so just wanting to narrow it down to a couple of spots cheers. Tides, baits etc all welcome...

There is a boat & fishing tackle shop at Ardwell. Call in hear for your frozen bait & they will tell you where is fishing best.
I have only fished tarelly beach & caught dogfish.
Make sure you take midgie repellent just in case.

I've fished there for years and I've never had any problems.

As mention already, Eric in the Sports shop and Tim in Ardwell will help you out.

If you're after Pollack and wrasse, travel light and get an OS map of the area. There are literally hundreds of marks on the west coast. Theres the famous Lagvag point at the Mull, but its very rare I fish here now as its fished out and there are better places.

As for Bass, they can turn up anywhere along the east side. There are hotspots that fish regularly, but not many people will divulge the info.

Best bit of advice I can give you is get the map of the area/google maps and explore. It took me 5 years to get my first bass over there, but the buzz was fantastic.

Don't worry about midges, the only thing you'll have to be wary of on your travels are bulls and electric fences ;)

Do get insect repellent, some areas of Luce bay can be a fudging nightmare for midges. 'Jungle formula' does the job, just don't get it on your lips.

Definitely watch the bulls, they don't like the English 👎

Not sure Tim still works at Ardwell Marine, I would ask Eric at the sports shop in Stranraer for advice - it usually doesn't come for free though lol
