With the webcam showing a little bit sea on and me working from home Tuesday I decided to try a few chucks on Longsands last night. Grabbed somne runnydown, mussel and crab from the freezer and got to the beach just before 8pm (LT 9:40) to find a couple of rods out already. Parked up at the top ramp and decided to try pretty much straight off from the bottom of the ramp, just to the left of the old boiler.

Had nothing on the ebb, trying various distances from 20 to about 60 yards. Then as low water hit I started getting bites close in and had a greedy Flounder on the 4/0 top pennel hook stuufed with black lug and tipped with crab:

Another Flounder came next chuck, then for variation a bit of a rattle and a Coalie came again closer in:

The tide was starting to flood quite quickly now and there were no signs of the hoped for codling. With hardly any bait left I decided to change tack and switched to a clip down rig and distance casting; first chuck at range and I was rewarded with a codling but not of the size I was hoping for:

With enough bait for one more cast I put another one out at range; I'd barely put the rod in the rest when I had a stonking pull-down but the bugger never came back :( Left it for a bit longer and ten minutes later I had the tell-tale rattle and another Coalie was on the beach to finish the night.

All in all a decent night on a newish venue for me; nothing of size but a few fish to keep me interested and it beats a blank. Spoke with a lad coming off Slatey who'd had nowt, there were a couple of lads on Stoney Bottom and another a bit further south but didn't see how they got on and they'd packed up and left well before I was done just after 11pm

Good effort. It's a lovely beach to fish, isn't it? Easy to access, easy to shift around. A nice cross between being out in the country and still in the town.

that was me stewart coming off slaty, would have stopped and had a chat but had to get back for weigh in,the lads to your right were Tynemouth lads who had a couple of codling and some flds, futher along on the bathing pool skeer was more tynemoth lads who had 4 cod between them, barge bottom one lad had cod 3.1.0. lost 6 sets of gear on slaty that's why I came off early. davy.

Nice to put a face to a name Davy, looking at where those lads were fishing (and the lad a bit further down) was very helpful to me for getting a better idea of where the different marks are.

Aye it's a lovely beach, just a bit far away (and through the tunnel twice) to be able to fish more often. Oh and spoilt a little by the boy racers constantly revving their engines and blaring their horns (must be trying to compensate for something else lacking) up in the seafront car park...

1 of my favourite marks in the winter tynemouth beach. so many marks to fish in such a close space. had some of my best nights on this beach.

Fished the last two hours of the ebb on the south end last night i had no bites but me mate hade two coalies ( one sizeable) one undersize codling and one flounder . Still a nice way to spend a couple of hours though

south end of the beach fishes best when theres a south easterly running. fishing from the beach up the side of bathing pool skeer. bigger tides i prefer here too.
