little rant: my experience of Buying a boat

As some of you know I've entered into the boating area by buying a boat.. although I'm already having teething problems I've still enjoyed the trips out.. but the whole process of buying a boat was not a good one...

I work from home doing web design, have my own company and do well for myself.. naturally I use e-mails for most of my communication which I think you would expect from someone in my line of work.

In the months leading up to getting the boat I sent off plenty of e-mails to 'companies' either requesting more information, prices, advice and the responce from these companies has been utter s**t to say the least.

I'm not sure if I'm expecting to much from the companies in question... I mean I was hoping for a responce

I do ok for money and I was looking to spend a lot more money than I did just it was going to be later in the year, this was explained in e-mails and I would of expected replies to be sceptical about me but a reply none the less.

It has actually continued since I've had the boat as well.. I've sent off e-mails about general services either engine or for the boat and again responces have been few and far between.

I don't understand why these companies will pay to have a web site created and they loose clients because they are too sodding lazy to simply spend 2 minutes sending a e-mail back.

I do hope some of the companies in the North East read this as they should not be ignoring customer e-mails.. all they are going to do is p*** people off and loose that customer and probably their friends.

ok little rant over

On the up side I've had some good help and advice off the general public using this forum.. thanks to all those who have put up with stupid pm's :)

edit: I had no problems buying the boat from a private seller.. just wanted to add I'm not ranting about him :D

never ceases to amaze me how many companies either never check or never respond to emails

they have a swishy website with an enquiry form, or contact form or straight email address so you whizz your enquiry off to them... which then disappears into a black whole apparently

trawled the web last week for a power supply for a mixing desk, sent 6 email enquiries of by email.... not one single response

this week I've been looking for some uncommon electronic components, probably emailed a dozen companies. As yet had only one response, and that was to say sorry not got one

I found the same issues and even worse when i needed a part for the Nanni engine, my word unless it was a re-build no one wanted to help for a part only worth £34.

My group of boating mates always said, if the boat dealers were into selling cars they would have gone under in less than 6 months.
