Bought the missus some expensive nonsense
my turn for a treat
everything i use at the min works perfectly so its just pure gluttony but nowt better than getting new toys
I use at the min
afaw clubman plus 525 slidey mag
imax 5stroke6 slosh 30
both for rough ground
conoflex source lite,akios 666 shuttle
greys apollo match, blue 7ht mag
Clean ground/piers
Only ones i am precious about are the 7ht mag and the conoflex,so looking to upgrade the rest
So if any one has any ideas for a couple of rough ground rods and reels? and one set up for light stuff?
Been having a gander at usa avet reels, which look the business but does anyone have any uk experience with them?
Think they call the magged ones magic cast mc, i prefer a magged reel as my casting is nothing more than a brutal lunge
Also looked at saltist ld and some of the omoto reels

There's so many rods to choose from. You don't need the latest gear but if you can afford it fair enough. For me the m4 evo is spot on for rough ground, slim powerful but with 'feel'.

You don't need the most powerful rod you can find imo.

I most definitely dont want a out and out poker, spoils the whole experience for me
Always try to keep it as light as possible but also being realistic (to light rod cant pull through kelp) (to slow retrieve reel getting stuck on way home)
Appreciate theres not a one for all and the old gear can sometimes be as good if not better than the new stuff
I am not and will never be a casting aficionado, strap it and chuck it is as good as it gets for me
m4 evo does definitely tickle the taste buds

Saltist 30 amd excalibur tt for rough ground

been having a look at the saltist range
lovely looking reels and cant fault any diawa reels i have owned
Would have to be magged for me as have a tendency to blow them up and its nice to have insurance when its blowing straight into your mush
Made the mistake of stripping all the grease off my slosh 30 and covering it in yellow TGs! cant do a thing with it unless i hover my thumb in anticipation of the inevitable
Is there any use in the 2 speed reels for our sort of fishing?
To be honest i dont even see the point of the lever drag system but might be missing something

I used mine all over the Northumberland coast line mate as well as on my doorstep. I say used as someone decided to take it off my hands. Anyway it's a good choice of power and feel and like I've said its slim, I don't really like thick blanks.

I assume it wasnt a voluntary pass over, nothing worse than losing gear
had 5 years worth of kit stolen in one night, the insurance more than covered twice the value but the rods and even the reels never felt the same
(like using your mates gear)
Sold the lot and started again from scratch
I Prefer the thinner blanks for no other reason than there easier to fish with

correct mate, but it happens, it's easily my favorite but money won't allow a another at present.

give the CCC ld consideration as well, comes very close to the m4 evo but has a slightly softer butt to allow for the c curve action and is 6in shorter buts that's nowt a reducer can't sort out, others may disagree but this is my opinion.

I dont normally bother with a reducer mate, probably because i have never took the time to learn how to use one correctly
Your spot on in saying there is to much to choose from!
Opinions say you should hold a rod and have a feel in the shop but from my own experience, how it feels in the shop is very different to when your line is out
Its horses for courses but i will have good look at all the suggestions.and thanks,as its better hearing from someone thats had a shot with them than someone trying to sing its praises when trying to sell them to you

It all depends what you class as rough ground off a rock skier most rods will fish kelp but if your up a height you need a poker or they will just fold marks you fish the most is what you should buy gear for I use a p3 in heavy ground and cliff marks not the best off the cliffs but definitely one of the best in rough ground.

Cheers
I class rough ground as sinker lost every cast unless fish on
Horrible, rocky ,and very unsociable
Dont fish the cliffs much so no need for loads of cranking power but i like to be able to lean on a rod rather than have to get hands involved

Txl gt would be great loads of power and the glass tip lets you feel every knock every head turn and will cast any lead size plus any bait size a lad I know cast a 6 oz lead lump off weed and 2 whiteys with no problem approximated at 20 oz s lol
