Dear oh dear oh dear. I let him go out on a charter on his own for the first time and it all goes belly up, what a man! How can anyone be that unlucky? I did very well to be sympathetic when he text me with the bad news and messaged back all the right things. I was at the caravan after my spa treatments and I couldn't believe his tales of woe. First the reel, then I get another text about the rod! He was so proud of the new build too!
My daughter phoned me during the afternoon and when I told her about Mark, she burst out laughing - which set me off! On the drive down to pick him up I told myself I must not laugh at him and be understanding. I was 15 mins late picking him up, due to traffic and there he was standing alone, a forlorn figure with a sad look on his face. I had to bite my lip really hard to avoid laughing uproariously! I kept my decorum on the trip home and sympathised with his rotton luck. Back at the van he brought in his little bag of fish and I'm afraid when I opened it, I could resist no longer and nearly gave myself a hernia laughing so much. The sight of two Cod that were over 5lbs before Mark took the knife to them, were now merely tiny lumps of flesh! Fortunately the Deckie took pity on him and filleted the Ling for him otherwise we would have gone hungry!
So tomorrow he is out with Norman, who I am sure will look after him and Tuesday he is back on JFK2, but this time he will have Duncan with him. Keep and eye on him please lads and more importantly, keep an eye on my bloody gear!!
I was out from Amble on Dave Builths Upholder on Wednesday and one of the lads on board had his rod snap in half. The rod in question was a brand new Sonik which the lad only bought a few days earlier. Seems like Sonik are building crap rods again.
