bit of a late report, i did start typing it up yesterday but i was shattered so i sacked it.

after chomping at the bit to get out after what seemed like a very long winter my season finally started yesterday on board the jfk2, i had my mate kris and brother in law james with me.

expectations weren't high as its still early in the season, a couple of keepers would do for me.

it was to be my first trip out on the jfk2, i'd been out on the sarah jfk years ago so i fancied a trip out on the newest boat on the tyne.

what a piece of kit, very very fast, loads of room with a top skipper and looks amazing

so off we went at about 8am out the piers to be greeted with a 3-4ft swell which was was going to drop as the day went on.

once we were out the piers we headed south, most wrecks had the odd fish on them, mainly ling with the odd cod, pink hokkai's baited with squid were the most effective, though daylights baited with squid worked too.

james managed to get a ling just under 8lb

then decided he was going to kip

we must have had about 50 fish on board, my count was 3 ling, 1 codling and 1 scotchy..... then the tide turned and as if some barsteward had flicked a switch the fish had stopped feeding, nothing at all was happening, take my hat off to allan, he tried wreck after wreck after wreck trying to find the fish but it just wasn't happening, he put a lot of effort and fuel into trying to find the fish.

few more pics,

my filleting skills seriously need improving, must be the lack of practice from not catching enough fish :D

we had an amazing display from the gannets on the way home, diving into the water for anything that was thrown overboard.

there would have been a lot more pics but it rained most of the day so it was hard trying to use my phone.

we had a seal alongside the boat at one point, nice to see.

and can you believe that james won the sweep after spending most of the day asleep.

massive thanks to allan for finding some fish and trying his hardest to find them after they went off the feed, top bloke and top skipper and i'll be booking up again soon

Great report and photos Tony. Allan sure puts in the effort for his customers and a great guy to boot. Love his boat, fast stable, plenty of room and a great cabin. Booked our July trip already.

PS You do indeed need to improve your filleting skills! :D

Superb report and pics Tony

Well done mate, and yes the only way to improve filleting skills is to keep on getting out there and catch :D:D

Great report

Norm

nice report

nice report

nice report tony. and summed up the day to a tee,
still really enjoyed the day, despite the rain, and a canny early start to the season. seeing a fair few fish
looks very promising. and looks like the 2016 seasons now started

Great report Tony, and a good start to your season.

Allan certainly seems to look after his punters and put the miles in to find the fish. He needs to spend a little time showing you which way round to hold a filleting knife :)
