me and a couple of mates were on the jfk two yeasterday, the last trip of the year for me after a poor season and you wouldn't belive it was october, almost no wind and once the sun got up it seemed like june/july.

the fishing was as slow as its been all year with only the odd small ling coming in, there's still masses of mackerel about.
all i'd managed was a coalie about 2lb and a fair few mackerel before i got my first decent take, i was targeting ling and cod with my big mackerel and prawn bait but this beauty decided he wanted it.

5lb 2oz when weighed at home
as the day went on the fishing was picking up, more and more ling were coming in, all around the 5-6lb mark and crewman neil managed the only cod of the day.
the highlight of the day came next, there was a old guy and his grandson fishing next to me, before we got on the boat he explained it was his first trip out for about 50 years and it was his grandsons first ever, i told them one of you two will catch the biggest fish today,
i heard the old guy next to me say ive got the wreck, allan came over to help him and took his rod, thats not the wreck, thats a good fish so handed the rod back and up came this beauty, biggest fish ive ever seen and great to see.

the guy was over the moon and it earned him the £50 sweep.
thats it for the boats this year, its been the worst year ever for a lot of us,
big thanks to all the skippers who have took me out this year, you've all made loads of effort but if the fish aren't feeding there's not much anyone can do.
time to get the shore gear ready
