stoped in a lodge in newton stewart for 3 nights and got the chance to go out fishing twice.

Sunday

after getting bait from local tackle shop headed off to borrowhead caravan park. set up the float rod and was straight into small Cuckoo wrasse

just as i had taken a pic of the wrasse i herd the rachet go on bait rod, this resulted in my first dogfish

i continued to pic up small wrasse and dogfish and a few undersize pollock. lost a float when the hook got snagged so set up another and hoped i didnt loose it as it was my last one :( cast it out just 10 yards infrount of my into the wide gully. float went under and struck into what felt like a good fish, it quikly swam 10 yards to the right, it looked like a bass about 2lb, then.... SNAP. line had been worn down by the rocks and the 12lb line was more like 5lb.

Monday

headed back down to borrowhead even though it was raining. just took the float rod as rocks were far to slipy, caught loads of small wrasse then later on as sun got out headed to isle of whithorn. baited up a single big ragworm whilst i sorted froozen mackerel and sandeels out (which are ment to be the best bait here) cast it out 40 yards and set the ratchet.

started spinning with the tele rod and picked up to undersize pollock(one was same size as spinner :D ) then it got snaged so had to snap it off. was just tieing another spinner on when i herd the ratchet going and it didnt stop. i knew it wasnt a doggie and must of been somthing big. then the rod fell over taking the tripod with it, lucky it wasnt on the waters edge. took the ratchet off and started reeling in and it was giving me a good pull. i got the fish close in only 5 yards out and it swam under a rock. i pulled at it from all directions it wasnt coming out. gave it a bit of slack line and a few seconds later the line tightened and i quikly pulled up and pulled it out of the water. it was a smooth hound 6lb 9oz a new personal best fish and my first smoothhound :)

i had 3 more casts after this caught a doggie on each one then had to go as the dog needed her dinner and we forgot to bring it :(

it was a shame there was no size pollock or wrasse but the smoothhound made up for it.

all fish were returned, and all were unharmed acept afew doggies which swallowed the hook
