Ideas for a new boat rod please

I was out with my mate the other day and snapped my Abu 7. There actually very soft rods. And don't think that they're a true 30lb class rod. When I was borrowed an ugly stick. (The same day). It had a much better feel than the Abu 7. I know now I will never buy another one

Mine isn't an Abu 7 rod it's a GT sorry. Look just about the same though compared to my mates 7 and the GT I borrowed for my last boat trip.

Good luck with what you have. Sonik are bringing out a new rod identical to the kenzaki. Think for £40 I'm gonna get myself one of those.

Fladen maximus for me too,I've a 20-60lb version and they are excellent

Thanks so much for all your advice and opinions lads, very informative. I found a Sonik SK4 for sale, near to where Lynn lives, so I took that rod.

As Norman said, they are a snazzy red, which I love! Should go well with my Shimano Charter Special, especially if my "gold" power handle gets delivered in time.

If I don't catch much, at least I will look the part!!

Thats going to worth waiting for a Sonik thats got the same qualities as a Daiwa Kenzaki for £40 WoW

I got the Penn Rampage Braid. Superb rod very tippy but the body very straight, handles great.

I have a Fladen solid carbon...currently fishing with an SK3 12-20lb tho - absolutely glorious rod to catch fish with

I second that, ive got two. I would think the SK3 20-30lb in the sonick range would suit your needs great, as they have power withe great flexibility.

I have a ugly stik 30-50 about 25 year old & reckon it will handle almost anything in the sea, but now very tatty & bought an abu 7 30lb class & for the money you can't complain I use it everytime I'm out, can feel the slightest of bites which I wouldn't feel with the ugly stik

Had a very close look at the Excalibur boat rod & must say it looks very impressive & one of the lads had one when I was out boat fishing last,
Thing is, is it worth the £245 price tag

Have a look at the Abu Suverans, I use a 12-20lb for just about everything! Landed 30lb plus Cod, Tope and Ling on it, yet it's sensitive enough for Plaice and Bass

Whatever you do DONOT & I mean DONOT get a sonik xtr sk3
Bought a 30-50 lb class yesterday
& it snapped today with a heavy jig
No snag or anything just a clean break

Been onto the shop I bought it from & there gonna get a replacement!!!!
To be honest I'm not convinced I want another one
I think the only use there useful for is filling up a skip
