Ideas for a new boat rod please

I hope this thread doesn't start an argument, but here goes.

I am looking for a new or second hand boat rod. After buying two Shimano reels without selling my other reels the self proclaimed "Codqueen" has made it quite clear I have to sell my Penn Powerstick and Diawa TDR before buying another rod.

I don't want to spend more that about the £70 or £80 I hope to get for the other two, because I will only use it 10 times tops a year.

Any thoughts you experienced boat anglers have I would be glad to hear them.

fishing off a boat,der.as you should know mark @ lynn do wreck fishing while up here on holiday.so i would say wreck fishing off our charter boats,kingcod deanos the man imo for good advice.let the fun begin mark,let the fun begin cos its you.hehehe.

The rod will be used for wafting about on a boat, usually with nowt on the end of it!

We do wrecks, but rough ground too. I do like a rod with a bit of play in it. Not a fan of heavy duty rods, just a personal preference,

Sorry to disagree but I use one for pirking and one for shadding there isn't one to do all. I would go for a 20/30 class for shadding and a 50+ for pirking as if they are tight to the wrecks they need nailing before they can put you into the wreck. Also you use Nylon so you are at an even bigger disadvantage as the stretch will give them even more to play with.

I like the Fladen Maxximus solid carbon jobs, great rods for all round boat stuff, the rings are a bit naff, the ceramic has popped out of a few of ours but for £50 (at Sports Direct) you can't complain.

most NE boat anglers like the Fladen solid carbon rods...I have got one as well, but for me a Shakespeare salt extreme is first choice since over a year. I bought it for very reasonable money at Glasgow Angling Centre

I have a Fladen solid carbon...currently fishing with an SK3 12-20lb tho - absolutely glorious rod to catch fish with

Another vote for the fladen maximus solid carbon from me.
My favourite is the green one.
Only downside to them as Keith says is the eyes are not the best after a season or two.

They do new versions with better rings, blue / orange rods but they're a lot more money.

Just remember when you hook that fish of a lifetime at the Graveyard do you want it to take you back into the wreck and lose it or do you want to nail it and bring it home?

For me and offshore fishing there is more of a chance generally of bigger fish so I do like to use a stiffer rod!

Can't justify 2 rods at the moment, maybe in time, but just one for the summer. It's Lynn's birthday while we are down, so I need to keep a spare tenner to take her out for a kebab!

Sell it! I bought it brand new and I never used it, if you have hardly used it, it will be worth a few quid!
