This time last Summer, we put all our eggs in one basket and booked Cayton Bay Caravan Park and had 4 charters out of Whitby, as we thought that would bear fruit....................... It didn't!............... Only one trip could have been considered a success, fishing wise.

Over £200 lighter we drove the weary 250 mile drive home. We had been down in the NE previously at Easter, the weather was rotten and I caught precisely no fish! The October in 2013 was rubbish too!

The last 12 months we have been unable to get down, due to Lynn being unwell, so this is our first trip in a year.

My question is, why with 3 rubbish trips in the last 3 attempts, am I so excited and positive about our Summer trip? History is against us and a normal person would be dreading fishing again!

What makes us anglers ridiculously positive about catching? It's nuts!

Answers please! :)

Like everyone says, no trips are the same Mark....

I made decision last week to do no more rough ground fishing, i would rather travel 30 miles trying wrecks and blank than drift rough ground...it's the excitment of thinking you might get the fish of a lifetime...or not....that keeps me doing it......the same for you as well.......:)

I guess you get a lot of pleasure planning the holiday and trips out, so its not about the actual trip, its the expectation of it....:)

Hope you do well this year, but if not, i'm sure you'll be back again next year..;)

Whitby with their stupid catch reports, festivals and ridiculous photos raise expectations beyond reality. plus the good boats at good tides are usually well booked out.

Hartlepool is solid on the grounds but hardly ever spectacular. Almost "idiot safe" at the right weather and tides.

JFK is a classic wreck fisher with all the excitement it gives. You will lose a lot of your hokkais though! ...in July at a good tide and wind you can expect some spectacular cod and ling.

fingers crossed the weather lets us...lots of bad NE winds so far this season

Easter I wouldnt even bother to try charter boat fishing in the NE. I have my boat out of the water at Easter. its either rough or dead and/or algae bloom all over

I'm sure Mark and Lynn you've got it "just right" this time, it's prime wrecking time loads of mackerel, decent weather (or looks to be) and the best boats booked from both the tyne and hartlepool.
The Graveyard is an unknown to me but I'm sure it'll produce.

good luck, see yous soon
