Had a few hours down Horden this afternoon. Dropped the FPO and bairn at my mothers place just after two and did a runner to the beach; this was to be an experimental session for me as I've only ever fished Deneholme and the White Rock area down there and want to try some new spots.

Made the trek north along the beach to the next dene north of Deneholme to a mark I believe is known as Black Water (?). Got set up about 20 yards north of the dene and about 50 yards before a set of rocks I could see in the water. Usual tactics, two rods, two hook clipdowns, 1/0 hooks one rod blasted out and the other at varying distances form 20 - 80 yards.

Not the nicest of days to begin with, a rotten persistent drizzle made fishing a bit miserable for the first couple of hours. It was also very quiet, nothing was touching the closer in rod while the blasting rod was getting crabs at about 140 odd yards (the strong WSW winds were helping the casting today :D).

Finally got my first bite on the closer rod about an hour before HT but missed him, then next cast got a good little rattle and landed a codlet to save the blank:

HT came and went and eventually the sun came out, it is a shame the same can't be said for the fish. Shortly after the ebb kicked in I got another rattle on the closer in rod which resulted in a little Flounder:

Then about 30 minutes later I got another, better Flounder again at about 60 yards out:

And that was it for the day. It was nice to try a new spot though the walk back along and up to the viaduct was a bugger. The sea was like a mill pond but the northerlies from yesterday have coloured the water right up. Baits were Rag, Lug Squid and Bluey and once again all fish took the Bluey with the worm baits only of interest to the crabs :(

Cheers lads, have to say that hauling those dead weight crabs in from long range was almost as much of a killer as the trek back up to the car :(

black water gets its name from when horden pit was spewing out 1000's of gallons of the stuff from its bowels..... next mark north was probably the flight/mucky bay area , even futher north of the flight say 80 yards is the waterhole a good low water mark ...
