Hook identification

Has anyone seen a hook like this

I bought a bag full coz I liked them (I have a thing for hooks) and was wondering what there are used for ?

I must say I've never seen a hook shape like that before, how have you used them , Rig etc ?

I've tied a couple of flies up with them and they make great looking nymphs but never fished them .
