Head torch

I have a small Petzl head torch (its a small hiking size head torch) which i used on thursday night and to be honest it was spot on for close work but no good for distance.

Does anyone have a preference for a specific head torch suitable for night fishing from beaches and rocks. Cheers.

i paid £8 for a cree 300 lumens one off ebay , uses 3aaa batteries and the main beam is awesome for a spot of around 70 metres , nice white light . you can buy better if money isnt a problem .

I've had most of the Cree lights and use the 1600 for cliffs and piers, but for the beach I grab my princeton apex, because it gives a more comfortable light to Work with. No need for powerful headlamps on the beach imo.

thanks folks, just checked ebay and you can get loads of different ones, but it looks like the lenser h7 is the answer.

Check my post in the eBay links section, looks like a cracking light for the price, I've just ordered one.

Aye Wavy I got the lenser h14 on e bay used, but I have used the h7 and both are top notch. All my fishing is rock edges and I have a tiga and a few others not in the same league as these. You`ll not be disapointed.

Lenser 14hr, 7hr

As a me treat ! I have just bought the 14hr,( £62 fleabay), as I thought it would be better than my 7hr, which I thought was brilliant. It is a brilliant piece of kit, and first choice for walking in/out of marks, etc., but it hasn't the control of the potentiometer the 7hr has. I don't like tip lights, as in complete darkness they are too bright, and I think you can miss subtle bites, my opinion. I find 3M solas tape over first three gaps between rings, and the 7hr with the power turned right down, I can see every movement of the tip. The 14hr has just not got the control to do this, and is too powerful. I picked a 7h up on fleabay for £22 delivered, bought as set of rechargable batteries, us it for DIY around house, now have 3 redundant 2d cell maglites, which cost a damn sight more, are a pain to use, eat batteries, and aren't half as bright.
Simples !!!

wavy davy put a post on yesterday about a carbon copy lamp of the ( led lenser £36 ) on ebay, for £5+ plus free post a mate of mine has 1 and he said they are just as good as lenser so i have just sent away for 1

Got a fenix hp 11 and its the best ligth ive used

But what ever you buy whether it be cree, fenix lenser princeton theyre all quality lights, the crees dont seem to last long though so personally id look towards one of the others thst have been mentioned

cheers davy any idea price of spare batterys, and how long do they last. tight lines

Had mine about a year now and has never let me down, use the low setting for baiting up and the high for cliff fishing, tested it in the house and was still going strong on high after 3 hours, you can get spares on eBay for about a tenner, just make sure they are T6 batteries.

I have one of these but the mounting system for the lamp is dubious to say the least. I bought mine from overseas and it was delivered with a faulty mount which took months for me to get sorted. The lamp however is great, as bright as you like and the battery hasn't let me down at all, although i do switch off when i don't actually need the light on. I think there' better mounted lights out there for around the same price and seem to be readily available in the UK now.

i used a tiga for around 10 years for everything.

after lots of problems with cheap chinese breaking i now have a lensor h7r.

i use it for everything and i do all my digging at night with it, plug it in when i get home and its ready for the next session.

even on 3 AAA batteries it lasts a 5 hour match or 3 hours digging. you dont need it on full power even for digging.
