fixed spools, why the stigma ?

Exactly mate, thats what people need to realise. I enjoy using multis, I really do, but as you say there's nothing a good fixed spool can't do that a multi can. For me it's trouble free fishing, no nests, I've personally not experienced ring wrap or 'wind' knots, you can swap spools easily to suit a venue, warmer hands in the winter, for me more control in the dark when retrieving a good fish as theres no need to concentrate on laying line etc. If this doesn't make me macho enough of an angler then fair enough, I'll still sleep easy at night. And as I say I still enjoy multis but for me they are NOT the be all and end all.

the same attitude applies to folks who use a multi with a level wind ..

No attitude. Just trying get my point across. I'm glad I tried braid and fixed spools and I now use mono with them as well. I enjoy them just the same as a well tuned multiplier but without the drama.

P.s just realised what you actually meant lol.

I meant , people who use multis with a level wind are looked upon as not as macho , same as using a fixed spool . ;)

If you put time in with a multi and have the reels running safe there fine as for the dark i know when my baits about to hit the water by the noise the reels making. Very rare i actually watch my lead in the air. Fixed spools have there pluses as there easy to use but downsides are you have not got the control you have with a multi i have fished with lads using fixed spools and seen them lose fish skimming along the top of the water. Everyone has there own likes and dislikes the stigma with fixed spool is the fact there easy to use and anyone can use them. If i could cast them without feeling weird i wouldnt be bothered what people think.

I've used multipliers since I was 10, can use them fine in the dark and very rarely get a frap up if ever. Thats not the reason for this post its to try and change some people's perspective of the f/s, evidently that's pretty hard to do but I've tried.

Fixed Spool First Reel

Fixed Spool First Reel

Can anyone remember their first fixed spool reel? Mine was an Intrepid Black Prince and cost the sum of one book of green shield stamps......I think it lasted about 5 weeks of the summer holidays before I had to gan back to school....PS....over fifty noo lol

More and more people are using them but i think people will be drawn back to multis in the winter months. I can def see the plus points to them and to be fair the f/spools are getting better and better they could be the future
