My first one was about 1lb from smiths docks about 5 years ago i caught it with a cheep trout fishing rod which i ended up snapping that day around my 5th cast. But i had a fish and i didnt care (well trying to cast anyway) ;) Im glad of that days fishing coz iv had many more fish and have meet some top qulity people and made some realy good mates epecialy the lads from longbenton and seatonburn club TOP LADS which i wouldnt have met other wise.I think fishing is not just about the fishing its the people you meet,Just my point of veiw :D :D :D ;)

Whitby\'s west in the very early 80\'s, I was about 12 years old. Went with my m8 and got one 1st cast/ Ended up with 6 codling that night. The see must have been full of them back then.

damm it gonna show my age here 1966 a fish of just under 2lb ,from the end of saltburn pier when it was way way longer and had a huge canopy at the end which you could hide from the wind and rain .the next day dad took me to whitby and he had a 6lb cod ,great days

Only took up fishing about 6 years ago.
1st codling was on my 2nd outing: 2lb from the little beach at So. Shields..........aswell as being my 1st - I think it was one of my last, also - well, it feels like it......hahahaha.

Couldn\'t agree more with Darren about the \"meeting people\" bit.
Since joining NESA, I\'ve met a load of great folk and have come to regard several as \"mates\". I think there are a few others on NESA who could say the same.

Aye yer not rang there mate.

My first shore Codling came from the Staithes at Blyth about 1980. It weighed 2 1/2 lb but might have been 10 lol.

Mill Dam 1984 about 1lb. Used to fish a beachcaster and a boat rod which I used to just dangle over the side, that\'s what I caught it on :casstet:

Lyodds jetty N/Shields 1970 (ish). Less than 1lb on a handline and freshly dug rag from the middens. Below the jetty was abundant with coalies and sprats cos of a pipe that discharged there and the fish merchants dumped all the waste from processing.

Must have been around 8/9 yrs old went fishing with my Dad (we never caught owt) at Rat House Old Pier down the slope into the bay. I was holding the rod and nearly pooped my pants when the rod got pulled towards the water (never experienced a bite before). After much struggling and expert instructions from Daddyo like \'reel it in then\' a codling about 2lb broke my duck. Got another one same size. That was me hooked.

my 1st two cod were on the same day
the shields open 2000
3lb 5 oz was the heaviest
both were 5 lb 5 oz 6dr
i was the junior champion
i came 16 overall aswell
from frenchmans bay

my first 2 were from roker pier --first time fishing with borrowed gear ---caught 2lber and 21/2 lber it was me who got hooked---1977
