hi all
was thinking of fishing for these this year is there anywhere round here i can fish for these or would i have to travel further afield like up scotland.
what rigs and bait is best aswell cheers lads and lasses

there's been a few off s/shields pier this year if you want to target them from the pier you could have a long wait.

We had a couple of doggies from the back of dunstanborough castle and a 4lb bull huss too last summer they will take most baits, but we got em on mackeral stip and sand eel.

Over in SW Scotland, anywhere westward from Kirkcudbright, there are literally thousands of them.

Best bait, frozen sandeel or ragworm on size 1 hooks. As for rigs, 2 hook paternosters are as good as anything.

The novelty in catching them will soon where off;):D

Over the past few summers they have been getting them regularly on seaham north pier along with some small thornback rays, probs best to fish with 2 rods though cos they havent been around in great numbers.

Have read that Dogfish (as in the Lesser Spotted variety) are only going to increase in numbers...this is due to the decimation of the "normal" food chain in most areas by overfishing...so it's very likely that at some point in the future the North East coastline will have them in greater and greater numbers

lets hope the sodding things stay there as well. Might be novel now and agin but once they are here, you'll hate the things

cheers goner have a try on the west side of scotland some time probs round whithorn or kirkcudbright just for a bit sport:)

doggys

doggys

have had them from beaches in cumbria from barrow up to carlise. large numbers from sw scotland and at times bites can be explosive nearly taking rod off stand. large ragworm tipped with mackerel good bait but they will take most baits. at times they can be a nuisance when your targetting cod, but you should have some great fun with them.

AKA rock salmon in the chip shops down south.

I get them in the pots in scotland when we are up there, skinned and chopped into chunk they're great for stir frying

Best recipe I heard is to boil them in a large pan of water with a house brick for half an hour.

When done, eat the brick.

you dont know what ur talking about :D:D:D

they gotta be about the best tasting fish going....wish to god i could catch one here....not seen or heard of one since i been in Iceland :(

i know a lot of people think theyre a pest but i set out last year to try and catch some. mate told me he had caught loads at a place called cricceth in wales, so i went for the weekend..didn't get a one.
however, have since had several nice ones from seaham north pier. i think you can also get them off the blast beach. mine have mostly been on mackeral and ragworm.
i think they taste pretty good too, rolled in flour and fried. found them a right sod to skin though!!!
a local fish shop to me charges over five quid a go so they cant be that bad

anywhere on the west coast is the place to be for them

as for eating them i tried them for the first time last year and i have to say it tasted very nice....:)
