Decent Fixed Spool Reel?

I'm looking for a decent fixed spool reel for shore fishing, to be used with a 13 foot beach/surf caster, nothing flash but want something strong, durable and reliable.

Thinking up to about £60 worth?

I can't see me getting serious enough to spend a lot more than that on a fishing reel to be honest-probably

I've checked out ebay and whatnot but now I'm looking for genuine recommendations from people who actually own and use a reel in the above price band.

Anyone?

ps: I "learned the trade" with the old Garcia Mitchell 602p multiplier when I was a kid and did pretty well with it but can't see me getting back into bobbins at my time of life, except for boat fishing ;)

I can recommend the penn surfblaster 8000 mate. Really nice reels and even better with the braid spool on. I've got 2. They are £90 new but I picked my 2nd one up off here in as new condition for £70.

Diawa opus bull is the best most durable reel in your price range in my opinion

I was after the same sort of thing a few months ago, looked at loads of reels and ended up getting the Penn Fierce 6000. Got mine from NETS for about £55.

It's a quality reel, I really like it. It has a full metal body so slightly heavier, but I like the heft, nice and durable. Big spool as well, and shielded bearings, holds plenty of line and nice and smooth. I definatley recommend it. Looks pretty cool as well!

Having said that, I've just got myself my first multiplier ( a slosh 30 off Chukka on here, on the sale threads, he had another one for sale as well, £40).

I think I'm casting as far as I can now with the fixed spool, that's why I want to try getting a bit more distance with a multiplier.

Happy shopping!

I've seen new surfblasters on ebay for about £70. You wont get a better reel for the money unless you can pick up a secondhand shimano ultegra.

Shimano Aerlex mate, I've got two of them both 7000 size. They hold more line than I'll ever need, are solidly built and have plenty of power for pulling a big fish through the kelp. I had Daiwa Emcasts before these and they were terrible both broke eventually but these Shimanos look like they will run for ever.

Thanks once again, I've pretty much decided on the surf blaster to be honest, assuming I sell my Vapalux M320 this afternoon:)

I'm wondering though, whether to go for the 8000 or maybe the 7000?

I know there's a price difference but how much difference is there in actual size?

cheers

Steve
