Cut off by Tide ???

Anyone got any funny/dodgy stories about being cut off or nearly cut off by Tide ? Any wading done in a panic ? I've heard a few over the years and I've had a couple of hairy moments.

I was Spinning in over the MOG a few years back when me a my pal, decided to roll up my trousers and use the "stepping stones" to get across a 10 foot channel to a little island ! It was only knee deep !
(I'd been told by a trusted pal that there was 2 hours before bottom water)
Anyway I fished for 45 mins or so before realising it was flooding and panicked when realised the stepping stones were now gone !
Never packed up so quick, but In my panic totally missed the stepping stones and ended up in the drink ! Phone, car keys the lot ! Much to my Pal, and the other 15 blokes who I was with, delight ! I was never really in any danger but just shows how it can catch you out with a little bit of a lackadaisical attitude !

I'm just trying to get to grips with as many new rock marks as I can up and down out coast, and as I now mainly fish alone I want to know every "dodgy" mark.

Remember laughing about it Davey, especially how it happened (well I think one of us was laughing lol). I'm sure I've posted this somewhere before but I can't find it but it did get me a pass for O level English Language.

As a 15 year old one I fished the South Crab Hill, having promised the old man I'd stay on the beach. At the time the sewer pipe that ran up the Slatey and over the hill was still in place so you had an extra hour on both the ebb and the flood. There was me and another chap fishing and by the time the tide was well on the flood neither of us had a fish. The pipe was flooding and, although there wasn't much sea on (if there was we wouldn't have been there at all) the gap between the hill and safety looked a long way. My friend packed up and he couldn't have been more than 50 yards away when I got a bite and a fish. I baited up, cast out and had another straight away. I baited up, cast out and watched my colleague make his way along the pipe, only to go arse over tit as he fell down one of the inspection covers that were dispersed along its length. Soaking wet he picked himself up and went home.

I packed in immediately. The title of my O Level essay was "Not Yet" and it made it out that I waited for the bites to develop and that I counted the steps until the manholes but, as there was two feet of water above them, the reality is I shuffled my way along until I met one, straddled it and therefore got back to safety.

Told the old man I caught them in the Stoney. If he'd have known he'd have belted my ear.....then thought "that's my boy"

Much more difficult to do that today, without the pipe.

no inspection covers holes to fall down now Dave

not fishing, but willick picking,(and the odd lobster) up at boulmer,
a was in the second pool, the bairn's were playing on the beach and the ex wife close in.
anyway, a was head down arse up willickin, a love them, when a here a loud whistle, stood up and the bitch was standing up on the bank next to the car waving a can of me john smith's.
a then realised a was completely surrounded by water. then the panic set in, a was about 300 yard's from the shore, a started to wade in a bee line toward's the car, in no time at all the water was up to me chest, the bucket was on me head, was'nt loosing me willick's.
a needed that john smith's when a got to the car, we never spoke as she drove us home, still don't know why a divorced her....!

have had the lifeboat and helicopter out twice to me on south crab hill due to people at the bay hotel seeing my light and thinking I was cut off alan charltons son was crewman on board one of the times and I was reeling a 3lb cod in with the helicopter noise lights and alans son shouting at me to get off was in know danger still had half an hour left but to keep the peace left just as the fish were biting .with me surrounded by water the public thought I was in danger well done the public and the lifeboat for there alertness. davy. the hill has never been the same since they removed the pipe and lost two hours fishing it. have stumbled quite a few times on them inspection holes and been in the water twice, when the sea clouded you couldent see the holes david. davy.
