Had a half day off work yesterday so decided to have a session at claxheugh. Fished the last 3 hours of the flood using frozen runnydown and macky strip. Fished next to the steps, used 2 rods.
It was bites from the off and was a fish a chuck (loads of double shots too) nothing huge but load of flounders will have topped 1lb the best was around 1lb 6oz. Not sure exactly how many i got but must have been 30+ flounders a couple of undersize coalies and whitings. Packed up just after top water, the fish were still catching then.
All in all a very enjoyable few hours.
I know flatty bashing isn't everyones cup of tea, but claxheugh is 5 minutes from my house, fish out the back of the car and at this time of year frozen runnys and macky are the only baits you need, bites every cast, quality flounder fishing.

Forgot to mention the flounders must have been feeding hard, as soon as you got a bite they were hooked not like normal where you need to give them a bit time to take the bait properly.

that's spot on info cheers mate we going in the river on sun have u any idea how south hylton is fishing

Not sure, but its only less than a mile upriver and usually fishes well around xmas time so should be ok, although i would go with claxheugh last half of the flood first hour of ebb. Frozen runnydown tipped with a tiny sliver of macky.

Exactly the same as a flounder I had on the beach last night, pulled the rod straight down, I thought it was gonna be a codling on
