Hi lads. Well got back on Monday and hit the hay as a was absolutely nackered by me trip away. Was there from from Friday 3rd till Monday 6th June, and fished on friday, saturday and sunday. Unfortunately the thornbacks and smoothounds didnt make a show, as the tides were massive and water crystal clear. Mind you, here's the story of the 3 days...
Friday 3rd
Well, was picked up at 7am by me mate Kenny and Steve (goose09) and then travelled up to Steve. B's house to all hour stuff in his caravan and big 4x4. Left his house at 7.45am and headed off to Brighouse bay caravan site, stopping off at a little chef for breakfast along the way. Got to the caravan site around 12.30pm ish, sorted everything out, got caravan set up and then off we went fishing for the afternoon. We fished a mark known ad 'torrs point'. Met two very nice scotish anglers who unfortunately caught nowt, but that was all about to change as we had to get goose09's first ever dogfish. I started by blasting out Bluey fillets at distance, while goosey just kept to simple, big chunk of bluey out with a short lob. After around 10mins he had a wrenching bit and this turned out to be his first ever dogfish, weighing around 2lb. And that was that for the day really, wad absolutely scorching hot. I managed 3 dogfish, goose got 1, Kenny had a codling and Steve. B blanked...
Saturday 4th
Was awoke at bloody 5.30am by an eager Kenny who want to get the mark early. We had too as it is a very popular mark with anglers, dont know its name but its in an area called Auckenlarie, at least a think that's how its pronounced... Anyways got to the mark and met up with Gary Pye of all people, a very nice and good angler indeed. I Started with a big crab bait at distance, and after putting the rod down onto the tripod for only 5mins I. Had a big wrenching bite. I struck into what felt like a got fish, fought like help and splashed around a lot on the surface. After a short struggle, I landed a lovely bar of gleaming silver, a 2lb 10oz bass. It was just lip hooked and was released fighting fit after a couple of pictures. That all the action for a while, until a had a nice dab around a 1lb some 5 hours later... and that was pretty much it, Gary had a few small bass, but everyone else had el-blanco syndrome! Another fine day too, a bit cooler but still very sunny.
Sunday 5th
Well again, another early start, but this day would turn out very difficult, but with a great ending. We travelled to Stranraer and fish a sandy, pebble beach point in Loch Ryan. Fished the for around two hours, so we pulled out all the stops and travelled to scotlands most southwesterly point in stranraer. Fish a classic stunning mark that turned out to the wright choice of move. Didn't catch anything on the bait rods, apart from Steve. B getting a few doggies. Me and goose09 had a help of a time catching pollock to 2lb on the spinner. We then tried using ball weights with a short hooklenght and a whole ragworm just flicked out past the rocks. This worked a treat! we managed to catch loads of small pollock and wrasse, all between 1lb and 4lb. After an exhausting trip I headed back to the caravan with some cracking pics and a good nights sleep before heading home the next day.
You may be wondering where's the pics? Unfortunatleu me mams lost the cable for the camera but am determined to find it it and get the pics up by Thursday. All a can say is I had an absolutely cracking trip and so did goose09, looking forward to going again next year
