Blueys

They are very oily fish mate. I think i'm right in saying that they are very commonly used in Iceland as bait. The one's we get over here are sent over from one supplier there so i read in a mag.

cod007,

They look similar to a sandeel but with the oil content of a mackrel. Supposed to be a great bait but so far I have never seen them for sale.

I keep meaning to put together a selection of preserved baits for winter inshore trips but never seem to remember when in a tackle shop.

Has anyone tried lazy lug and lazy rag as I think they me be worth having on the boat at times.

Cheers
dave

i use blueys! have done for a while. Reelsports always have them in, apparently they've used them for years for Pike fishing. As for how good they are i've caught fish on it but i couldnt say if its bettter or worse than other baits because i aint that good a angeler lol. I like to load a hook with crab and razor or musscel then hook a bit bluey on and fold it back over the rest of the bait, flesh side out then elastic it all up. gives a nice looking bait that holds the hook well. hope this helps.

There was a feaure recently on Blueys in the sea angler mag. Apparantly they are dynamite.
Gunna see if i can get some for Sat.

Mick.

ive had some nice sized whities on bluey's
and had some codling on them to from the pier
just on the bluey itself no cocktails
semms to keep its oil scent ect longer than macky

i think they will be good during the winter as a tip off /back up bait in the freezer for quick trips
