Out yesterday to fish the ebb in what looked to me a very promising sea. Started at Marsden and tried 2 different cliff marks but just getting weeded up every cast and pulled into the snags. That coupled with a facing wind prompted a move. So we headed into Shields and fished the brigade hut on SSP, just to get a bait in the water really. Nice idea but legions of crabs had other thoughts and were stripping hooks clean. So after a long look at the sea which was by now not coming anywhere near the top of the pier we headed off down the pier, first trying sea side just past the first gate and finally the end. Eventually got a bite from the SE corner and managed a 36cm codling on cart which was returned, after all that traipsing around it was nice just to see a bite! Even on the end of SSP it was hard to fish with the tidal surge and what was left of the big seas. I guess on balance we were out a day or two too early. Another lesson or two learned.
