Bimini Again

Hi Lads, I have posted on here before asking about shock leader knots and what people use. Here goes, i learnt the bimini a while ago, however I could snap the loop easily (i'm using 15llb mono to 60llb shock)thats the loop which you tie the shock leader to. I played about with this for a while but still it was weak at the knot, the knot of the shock leader does not break, the twists of the bimini does not snap. Its the loop thats is left for you to tie to. I learnt the improved albright which I quite like, small knot and strong,cant snapp this one with my hands unlike the bimini. Over winter I used 30/40llb line straight through, however I reduced my line to 15llb last week to allow for a greater cast. I lost a couple of and shock leader in snaggs. So I thought everybody says the bimini is the strongest, I must be doing something wrong, went on internet, watched videos looked at bimini in sea angler, I am convinced I am tying it correct, so what am I doing wrong, or is it normal to snapp at the loop, cant see the point of the knot if you are left with a loop of original mono. I do understand how the twist stretch and absorb the power of the cast, but single mono loop is weak to me.
any advise would be appreciated.

15lb line seems weak to me for snaggy ground it would snap before the knot had a chance to work used this knot for years and the few times it has failed its snapped at the loop the knot has never failed i use 35lb main line and have it on for years , cheers jamcod

Thanks for the reply jamcod, when I fish snaggy ground I use 30/40llb line straight through. use 15llb with shock leader for cleaner ground, shockleader is to protect for safety as I get a much better cast with 15llb line.

I have used the Bimini a few times never really mastered it but can tie it okay and I've never been able to snap the loop with my hands on 15lb line, however i dont really like the Bimini as you can loose a lot of line if you have tied it correctly because most of the times it will snap near your rod tip rather than at the knot. My favourite shockleader knot has to be the spider hitch loop with a slim beauty knot and although not as strong as the Bimini it will still pull your gear out.

also how old is the line your using, that might be why the loop is breaking easily, and what make of line is it.

finally have you tried tying the Bimini on a different line and what were the results on that.

hi i use 15lb mainline with a 60lb shockleader tied to a bimini twist. i find that this is without the best one i have ever used, like you i have found that it always goes at the loop, so no matter where i fish rough ground, clean ground or even in the river i always use a rotten bottom, line in weaker strengh than the mainline tied to the sinker, so if i ever do get stuck the sinker is lost and not the leader. reducing the time spent tying new leader on.. however if the hook is the one that is stuck then this can cause the leader to snap, but that is not that often. try using rotten bottom to see if this helps

Thanks for the replies lads. I am using daiwa tournament line which is recently bought. I think I will continue with the improved albright, it is weaker than the bimini but I don't think to an extent that it will effect the type of fishing I do when using a shockleader, it is also alot easier to tie.Think I am going to give up on the bimini, to much hassle, by peoples reply's there are alot of people out there who are like me, not convinced by the use of a bimini.

Tappered shock leader knot or slim beauty knot easy to tie and flys through the rod rings and strong enough.

didn't see anyone going through the obvious Route but do you wet/spit on your line when tightening up? also how many twists do you do... it says 13 (if i remember) but use a variation.. I think I use 10-13 twists depending on my line size.
