RIVER WANSBECK, COQUET, AND
SEATON SLUICE HARBOUR out of bounds but what about the river Blyth ?

Don't understand opens that pay more for heaviest bag

Simple reasoning behind that idea,a Open deservedly won with a multiple fish heaviest bag is far more skillfull, the whole point of the competition to find the best angler on the day, than someone winning a Open by means of a lucky single heavy fish.

But surely more would enter for that lucky fish, plus when everyone goes fishing your always after the big fish.

In theory yes l could agree with that biggest fish opens can attract bigger entries and can be won by anyone on the day but are still a total lottery. Most regular match anglers dont like them for that very reason.

The very reason clubs north of the Tyne who still run the big opens have a separate heaviest fish cash prize.Keeps the old school match anglers happy who put as you know a lot of effort into their preparation for a match chasing the heaviest fish bags which comes with Open titles and penn points. The casual anglers turning out still have as good a chance by picking up on the day a good bag or single big fish.

Not forgetting many a heaviest bag Open north of the Tyne has been won in the past with a single big fish, clean sweeping Open title heaviest bag, biggest single fish prize and team pairs,Sadly no matter which way you run a Open these days hard to keep everyone happy and numbers have drastically dwindled in recent years, leaving sadly only the most competitive match anglers in general to make up the entry numbers.

100 percent agree with you there, and gives great answers that can not be denied I can imagine how annoyed a match angler would be to be beat by a fluke fish. I was just thinking about getting more people to enter but like you say you can not please everyone. However I do agree with how opens should lean towards the match lads chasing penn points or money as they are the same lads who enter comp after comp after comp. were as the likes of myself who enter random ones for the heaviest fish comps.
