backcasting

ive been led to belive the back cast was more for putting a big heavy bait out at distance can any one confirm this as it would explain why no one does it now cos compared to most rods of yesteryear all most any rod now can put a large bait out at distance

hi inford, are you going to clubmans sunday, anyway one ochee pendulum casters cast forward backcasters cast backwards therefore two courts needed. never seen many backcasters myself but someone who used to impress me was howard grey from east halton next to the humber. i heard it said in mags years ago backcasting was easier to do than pendulem but when i tried it i did,nt find it easy, my casts always used to go high but no distance they used to say 14ft 2ins min lgth for a backcaster

forgot to mention inford half the time i dont even know myself what i am going on about so dont worry if you dont understand me. bazz and me are the old farts up here actual bazz is an old old fart

hi captain i know what you are on about,am i right here that backcasters years ago prefered to use fixed spool reels. i dont like standind with my back to the sea waiting to cast when the sea is a bit lumpy but as you say i thought it was a popular way of fishing at one time using heavier leads in an onshore wind

not sure john mate first time i seen it down hilston near hull this year (p****d) myself laughing but assuerd its a real cast so looked into it and thats the feed back i got would love to see someone doing it for real as the guy i watched put his sinker three foot into sand twice then only managed about 30 yds which was strange as he couldn't half overhead thump it.
