After our 2 day in a row boat trips we took a day off from the fishing on Monday and did some sightseeing in Alnwick and Warkworth, lovely countryside. Still managed to visit Hardys tackle shop mind you, impressive shop and really helpful staff. On that subject, people are so pleasant and helpful down this way, Norma at Amble tackle shop, newsagents round the corner, staff in the Schooner and all the skippers, reminds me of my part of Scotland 20 years ago! Sadly replaced with sullen indifference now.
Anyway back to the fishing. Had a charter booked with Graham on EvelynJade of Tuesday, but he phoned Monday night to say it would be too windy. Still he said Thursday was looking good, so Thursday it would be.
So on Tuesday we headed down to Alnmouth beach, thought if nothing else I could put in much needed practice with new beachcaster and penn mag 525. Lynn has a new beachcaster too, but as she hasnt mastered casting with the pier rod, the beachcaster will stay in the cupboard for a while longer I suspect!! Fished the last of the flood and 6 flatties in 40 mins!. Very windy and cold, so we gave up happy and went for coffee.
Thursday came and again it was lovely, headed out to Cresswell and got seriously outfished by Lynn, but what can you do when she manages to foul hook 5 cod!! Graham asked, to the delight of the rest of the boat, if she always made me look a fool every trip!? Answer is pretty much in the affirmative! Anyway 15 cod, and a "granny fish?" Another great day, another skipper and boat to recommend to you and back to caravan for more deep fried cod.......Mmmm. Home now, but already booked for October, cant wait!
