All the fun of the sea

Yesterday I took advantage of the promise of good weather and headed to the coast.

Paddling out through the harbour it was blue sky all the way.

Hoping for a repeat of my recent good fortune I drifted south on the flooding tide, and sure enough, not far into my drift and along came my first cod.

Then with one bagged, it wasn't too long before another arrived

However, despite drifting for a mile or so, things went quiet.

and with the sea like a mill pond, the lack of fish continued as I further drifted all the way down to the headlands off Hendon.

After paddling half way back to my launch site, I resorted to a string of Mackerel daylights and the result was instant with them coming in two and three at a time.

even a litle tommy had a go

However, when the tide changed so did the calm sea. In fact the wind picked up so strong that white caps started to form

consequently it was time to head in to the sanctuary of the harbour and be happy with two 21/2lb cod for the table, and bucket of mackerel.

But hey, what a cracking day to be out.
