Well after a wake up call regarding regular income in 2012 i have decided that life is short and go for what you wish to do so in 2013 the plans start...yes you can tell i have not wet a line a couple of months and bored :)

April Skate trip to the far north west Scotland for my 4th bash at the skate, hoping to beat my PB of 199lb and break into 200lb club.

April until November fish 2-3 times a week every week from my boat, not got any new marks to try as fished everything within my limits but hoping for a settled season with a few more fish than last year.

July off to the far far north of Norway for the 2nd bash at the unreal fishing that they call Norway, better understanding of what to expect and how to fish now i have already been so if the weather is kind hoping to break maybe 2 PB's

Late Aug not booked yet but looking at having a bash fishing the Shetland's for 2 days, still in the planning stage and thou it wont be a patch on Norway i want to try it.

Septemeber maybe sooner book a 2 day trip to SW Scotland tope fishing, not landed a tope for many years and cant wait to try for them again.

As with everything you need the weather, money and other people interested to join you, hope everyone has a better 2013 season than we had in what was the worst year in my fishing lifetime 2012.

nice schedule for the year rich:)

you are absolutely right life is very short, even for those who get their full "whack"

one keeps saying i will do it next year or in a couple of years, and before you know it you have run out of time:(

Well so far so good as far as the 2013 season goes, its been a rather nippy winter already to set the balance right, with a host of rough sea's, bloom died off nice and the herring sprats seem to have moved off shore after taking with the Langoustine skippers at the dock, this time last year we had none of the above happen in any real shape or form.

Well for me it's defo pray for good conditions , I sold the little 14ft boat and bought a fast response rib, not everybody's cup of tea but with catching the bug from being on rnli it will defo give me good range to travel or get back sooner, obvious precautions taken due to tubes!!!! See u all out there

Well i have had a long think about what 2013 will bring and i have decided....

No new tactics required
No new lures, shads, twins, priks or traces required
No change in the general fishing times or locations
No new toys for the boat apart from safety flares

Reason being...No need to everything has worked for the last 6 years with 2012 being a one off bad year when we just had no feeding fish in our area, all i am hoping will change is we get less rain, clear water, less choppy sea's and the fish will come :)

and hopefully break some pb's

I've bought a few sand eels to try and I'm going to fish with bait sometimes , otherwise I'm not changing much either, I've decided it's not like coarse fishing where you can try something new one day and go back to the old faithful the next if it doesnt work, there often isn't a next day with boat fishing , it's more likely to be next week or next month before you get another go at it.
There are a few things I want to try, but they won't get a lot of time devoted to them unless they are instantly successful or I'm knackered from catching fish after fish and it's still only 9 am :D (happened one day last year ;))
I just hope we get some better weather this time round.

You be pushed to beat your PB cod Chris :)

Yer weather is the main one, if you got a nice day and the fish are not biting who cares, its when your being chucked around fast drift and catching nothing that the words "still nice to be out" ends up being a load of crap :)

Hope you reach all your goals Rich, and if you do, hopefully, you'll put some reports on again, always enjoyed reading them. Good luck:):)

Ray, you must be one of a crowd of people round here who have their fingers crossed for better weather and a better season this year.

If the weather allows this year, I want to have a run up northwards to plunder the ample Amble Pollock. I’m wondering if I can find water that is deep enough to hold good Pollock but shallow enough to fish with a spinning rod and sandeel. It may mean working out how to slow any drift down a lot, maybe trial a drogue. Roll on summer.

We've had some good pollock spinning metal lures with a spinning rod and fixed spool reel, one of my aims for this coming summer, if we get one, is to float fish for pollock from the boat , a sliding float set deep , cast over the side and let the drift take it away , lifting the rod will raise the bait, probably a sandeel of some description , through the water layers, releasing the line will drop it back again.
Whether I get the chance to do it only time will tell, but it might be fun.
If you are coming up , give me a shout, I'll give you any marks I know for pollock to get you started.

Well bit of good news for me, on shifts for a while longer at work so that means some Mondays and Fridays extra at sea instead of just the weekends.

Any shift worker on here that cant get booked up mid-week giz a buzz as often just me or me and Graham out mid-week...thats if the weather lets us :)
