Have sea angler run out of their own ideas?

I suppose buying Sea Angler every month is a bit like buying mens porn mag.You can only read so much before you get fed up.

I bought the Sea Angler cos i got a free gift. Sunglasses which did not fit.

I also like looking at all the new gear. Bought my Suveron rod and Supermag extra as a result of reports in the mag.

Will keep buying the mag as it does brighten my day up. (not Mayfair or Playboy).:)

Only prob is i hate reading stuff on line, much prefer hard copy.
But i read both mags, subscribe to Sea Angler simply since i got a good deal for three months,£3 for 3 issues.
I enjoy both and despite what many people say i do pick up some sort of tip or idea each time i read one.
I will often put one aside with a rig i want to copy from or a casting article i want to re-read and maybe try when i have more time.
I suppose like anything,no one forces anyone to buy them.
So don't if you don't want to.

I think your quote is way off the mark there.....would we lose every subscribing sea angler if we just concentrated on tournament casting? - please think before posting.

Terry, this started out as a great thread, nice to hear our readers views - we do take notice...
If you can think of any ideas for features, please feel free to email me your ideas at [email protected]

I can think of many ideas and no doubt many others may have some better ideas, would sea angler be prepared to pay for any of the readers ideas that they used?

one solution is not to buy it I guess!

yup it gets repetitive after a couple of years, so does total sea fishing, so do the fly fishing mags so do most 'seasonal hobby' related publications

I don't bother with any anymore, occasionally have a flick trough in tesco's

60% is going to be repeated somewhere, 35% is going to be pictures of what people have caught off the south coast (like I'm that interested), and 5% will invariably be how to tie a shockleader! added to that is the usual smattering of things that I have zero interest - tournament casting being one. (its a fishing magazine not a casting magazine!!)

like it or loathe it the formula must work though as its one used by most of the angling press and they are all still in business, and people keep buying it/subscribing.

sea angler does need one thing IMHO though. It needs to employ a designer, and one who knows what typography means rather than someone who got to page 1 of 'how to to desktop publishing' and gave up. Thats me with my work head on though. The layout now looks very very dated, you'd be amazed the difference in freshening the look of something can have, even if its the same old stuff that going in there

Yes, they would pay me and the photographer...

Why should you expect others to pass on their ideas for free which would not only make you look good for coming up with something new or good and get paid for it.

If you were to think of some new item of fishing tackle and took the idea along to a manufacturer would you give them the idea for free? well of course you would.

Gazza, read the post properly then reply!

I wasnt moaning at all, just asking a question, as for getting out fishing then i suggest you need to get your facts right mate as i bet there is a very small percentage of anglers on this board who fish more than me and i bet your not one of them.

Its good to see different views on local marks wether they copy or not (coincidence more likely).
The more the merrier as far as im concerned.
There is always a few items of interest in the mags but wether its worth the money for some people is up to them.

Has the magazine ran out of ideas? : No

Same features a coincidence? : Yes

Did i notice ? : Yes

Am i victor meldrew? :No

haha

sometimes its as if your reading the same artical but from a diff writer because of the same report areas, i tend to read tsf now in the shop and not pay , buy sea angler when i see something i want to look at and read, the venues especially now up north are good, i get lots of new venues i can go and blank at :)

Bear in mind also, that others who read it may want to go and give it a go

must admit that can be the downside too it, remember quite some years back s.a did a couple pages on a place called ciriad in north wales, we went there the folowing weekend, parked up at the top of the cliff, looked over to what is normally a `on your own beach` to see it lit up like blackpool with tilleys, the one good thing though was whoever told s.a did not tell them about the hotspot to the left of the beach on low :)

Matchman, thats a lot different to what you posted, had you posted a reply like the one above instead of " yeah me and the photographer" it would have been a much better reply.

Thanks for the offer of a feature, however i would rather pass this time round (that may seem a little ungreatful, not meant to be) i dont think a feature about me would be very interesting to your readers, in fact it would probably go down like a lead ballon in some circles.

regards
Terry

ALL anglers learn new things every session, find new, productive marks etc - but like in all journalism, the tip off is the ace card.[/

well said paul
