Shelters

Think they'd be more hastle than benefit in the winter given it's usually howling wind along our coast.

Wallsendo I used to take the mickey out of them years ago but they are excellent for venues where you do not have to move with the tide (steep beaches etc.) Allways use one when I am fishing matches down South - you chuck all your gear in them & bait - keeps the lot dry! Only ever used it once up here and that was at Lyneburn, not much cop on the majority of marks in the North East just depends where you fish.

Had one for when i used to fish off the cliffs at ryhope they are a faff on in the wind to put up but once they are up it spot on keeps the wind off you. but they are no good off our beaches because you have to keep moveing up and down the beach.

Does anyone out there take a shelter onto the beach with them during the colder months?

Or is it for those of a "lavendar persuasion"?

i presume wallsendo when u say "those of a lavendar persuasion" ,you mean homosexuals, if so, i must say that i find this as offensive as the smell of lavender it's self, also if you are are refering to homersexual fishermen then i must say some of the best fishermen i know are openly gay (you only have to look at some of the usernames on this site) and they are proud of there sexuality, in fact, only a week ago you would have found me and "mick" snuggled up in the back of a van on a deserted beach in arbroath. don't knock it till youv'e tried it mate, unless of course you already have............

Now then Ron I don't want to "cast " asspursions on your preferences however I don't see a need for you to be offended we're all just anglers here , and when you comment on HOMERSEXUALS ,is that of the Simpsons kind I wonder . The underlying point seems to me to be why do we need them ,I know I wouldn't consider one as I seem to carry enough gear and have cut down a lot recently therefor it would only add to my burden .
Feel free to reply in an enlightened and non offended way mate ;)

A "house" the name southerners give to their beach buddies can be very useful. Protection from the elements is only one reason.

I find they are useful for keeping your bait fresh from heat and sunlight ( not much use up here then!!). They also keep all of your tackle together especially useful on shingle beach in ther dark. As soon as you put something down on a shingle beach it dissapears, especially scissors, elastic, spare traces etc. They keep your measure and release card dry etc etc.

In a pegged match you can also hide your "secret" baits from your colleague on the next peg!!!

I thought i seen one on Cambois Pier one morning then i realised it was the sun coming up lol, honest :o
Lovely morning.
Cant say i've ever seen anyone use one, maybe a tackle dealer or employee that looks in here would tell you how many they sell for Sea fishing purposes,I guess there is a few marks you could use one but unless you fish there all the time it would be a waste of money

who was the tunnel and who was the train driver then

train driving fishermen.

train driving fishermen.

well sless, "mick" snores like a train, but much, much louder! never had any ambitions to be a train driver or a tunnell, but just to make sure i kipped in me chesties & a well zipped up sleeping bag! Not even the fishing could make up for it, gale force east & north winds made everwhere near unfishable. (usan & imbervie wild & huge!) managed only 2 codling,(also dropped a couple but neither were monsters) best just under3lb, 1 from arbroath pier the other near to tanglaha.
beach sheleter not needed!
