went to Nth York's country fair Sunday 29th May, had to retrieve one dummy out of long grass, one out of water and one from a copse after going over obstacle, three bar fence with bails of hay in front. delighted with his performance around 160 entrants he scored 27pts out of a possible 30pts, but scored his first 10, a few jnt scores 29, 28, so out of the prizes but finished well up in the top ten. Sunday 30th woke to torrential rain, we had planned to sit in the woods with the camera and see what wildlife came our way. By 1 o,clock getting bored, come on we are off to the country fair again. Same course and couldn't of got off to a better start a ten on the over the fence and into the copse, got better another ten retrieving from the water. By this time I am getting nervous. the dog, well chilled as normal. Got to the long grass retrieve, sat until told and went straight as a die for the dummy, brought it straight back but just dropped in a tadge earl for the judge (very strict) and where docked a point, still 29pts, I was beaming, and two tens. End of the day two on 29.5pts to run off for 1st and second, and four on 29pts for a run off for third, I thought well mate you are up against three labs, you did your best and I as well as everyone else will be proud of you. We where kept in a tent so we couldn't see what the run off was or how others did, we where last and by the sound of it there had been a couple of good runs. Anyway plain simple course retrieve dummy thrown onto grass at 50 yards, Fergus sat as still as anything until I was told to let him go, couldn't of given a better run, had a little tear in my eye, a few came over to congratulate me, but didn't count my chickens, but the little fellow had done it, we where third out of 144 entrants. Took him over to the posh nosh shop and bought a nice game pie, guy said hope you enjoy it, replied not for me it's for the dog.
