One of Tynemouth Club members had a similar thing happen to him while fishing a match on Tynemouth pier. Fishing at the four posts the safety boat for the sailing club launched his rod & reel on to the rocks and into sea. Luckily he made an insurance claim against the sailing club and got his money.Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught

jet skies.
Everyone has the right to enjoy there water sports,be it fishing, boating, sailing and jet skiers.
But I find the jet skiers seem at times to be irresponsible in there enjoyment of there sport.
I speak from a incident that happened to me a couple of years ago,I had my boat moored in Sunderland Marina and on this lovely Sunday morning I planned a sail up the wear to the a19 bridge.
Set off 3 hrs before hw with tide and light winds taking me and Susken up the river, this was my first trip up and it was very enjoyable seeing the wildlife and greenery once passed the wearmouth bridge it became very peaceful only a few people walking the banks and a few anglers fishing.
I got up to the a19 about hw and did a turn to come back down on the ebb tide,I moved over to port side of river but couldn't go to close due to my 6ft draft,I noticed a fast moving jet skier with two people on board as they got along side me he did a 180 turn very fast towards me I think with the intent to give me a good wet spraying, but the skier started to skid across the tide and rammed me side on.
On the jet skier was a young kid on the back and as they bounced off my hull
the kid nearly fell off but he was definitely hurt as I could hear him crying as
the driver sped away.
I was also concerned for my boat because of the impact but at 6tons and heavily built I had no worries.
On returning to the marina I reported this to the marina staff which in turn reported this to the wear harbour control, but the problem is these jet skiers have no identification numbers shown on there hull so I could only give colours red, blue and white.....have you seen any with these colours maybe with a bit of yellow as well.
To sum up I would say jet skiers must show large numbers on there hull and this should be enforced by the river authority and I would also like to see some rya 1st line training and insurance being compulsory for these crafts.
If this was the case you could have went to the skiers and claimed your rod loss on his insurance and in my case and damage to my boat.
cheers H
