After plenty of Mackerel a fortnight ago, it would obviously be much better today two weeks further into the season, right? .......................Wrong!!
As the title says, plenty of porpoises and Gannets, so good signs. Arrived at 1130am for a 1pm high tide. Hopes were high and we got set up on an empty pier.
An hour and a half later of constant spinning, had produced precisely nothing!
Suddenly we seemed to hit a shoal of coalies, never had any before off the pier, however they were small.
Next was a shoal of the smallest Joey's I think I have seen. We had been joined by two sets of father's and sons, which was good to see. However what was not so good to see was the father's smacking both species of small fish with a priest bigger than the fish! I may be Mr Angry here, but if you teach a young child it is OK to kill under-sized fish, chances are they will still be doing it as adults! I did say to one of the guys, when he got his priest out "You're not going to keep that are you?" His reply was an impolite yes!
Oh well, another father and son arrived and it was good to see them putting the small fish back. It was also good to see the wee boy wearing a life jacket.
Personally I would have cut off the whistle!!!
Really disappointing day fishing wise, but as always a lovely place to fish, with benches to have your picnic on, a cafe for a coffee and amazing scenery.
PS Oh almost forgot, the only Mackerel of keeper size caught in 5 hours.
No prizes for guessing who caught it!
