Just bought some 40lb braid and was thinking using it on the rocks, do any of you use braid on the rocks??? as i have heard conflicting opinions 1) that it cuts through kelp and is very good and 2) not the best for casting and will cut your arm off or worst still damage your rod if you get a good snag!!!
for snags with braid just wrap it round a bit of broom shank and use that to pull out the snag....wouldnt recomend trying it with the rod as it may damage it and also it might dig into itself on the reel... other than that i cant comment on its uses for rough ground fishing but would like to see the outcome of this thread as ive thought of using braid myself
i think i will load a old abu 6000 and see whatb happens (soon to be called the 1 arm bandit!!!)
Got braid on an old 6500 which I use for lure fishing for pikes. It works great, but watch out for the mother of all nests if you dont keep it under pressure when reeling in. Complete tw4t to unpick.
i use it off the rocks m8 but u would b better off with 80-100lb braid on a multi with a level wind, a abu 7000 is ideal. i use power pro braid in 80lb the diameter is the same as 18lb line,
no need 2 strike on a fish as u will pull its head off.
i also use 30-40lb braid on spinning reels 4 flatties & spinning 4 macky & pollock u feel everything even the way that the lure is working, great stuff i wont go back 2 mono.
good luck m8.
bill.
